Marcus Thornton laying it up in the Nike Hyperize "MLK Tribute"

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, multiple Nike brand players around the NBA laced up a special MLK commemoration in honor of the civil rights activist. Although the sneakers caught the eye of many in a positive way, we noticed that the color scheme mirrored that seen on the Pan-African flag. Pan-Africanism centers around a belief which seeks to unite native African heritage into a worldwide society. However, Martin Luther King Jr. believed in not only uniting the African heritage, but unifying the entire world no matter what race. Nonetheless, these grey foil-like based sneakers were a hot topic within Kicks On Court.

However, there was another signature sneaker that soaked up some attention in late December. Kevin Durant and his Thunder teammates surprisingly laced up the “Creamsicle” Nike KD II in game against the Dallas Mavericks. This happening undoubtedly brought attention to Durant’s second signature shoe and it ultimately became one of the colorways seen on the Nike KD II.

However, the latter changed as he shelved the Nike Air Force 1 for the first time in years for the Nike Zoom Sharkalaid. We understand that everything doesn’t stay the same, but next time you decide to keep the Nike Air Force 1 in the locker, please wear something that’s worth it!

As stated earlier, we always tend to witness a few sneaker surprises throughout the NBA season; yet, this particular Kicks On Court installment shocked us the most. Sure, Sheed surprised us by not going with the Nike Air Force 1, but did you ever think you’d see a Nike Trainer 1 on the court. Maybe Devin Brown is making a new trend for basketball players. Or maybe he forgot his basketball sneakers at home. Either way, don’t try this at home.

Kid Hollywood, the contest winner, also got the chance to attend the very game Kobe and the Lakers unveiled his creation. It has to be cool seeing an entire team (for the most part) wearing a colorway you constructed, right?

Kicks On Court: King James and his Calvary “Box Out Breast Cancer”

LeBron James dancing in the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Black/Pink

LeBron James dunking in the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Black/Pink

Mo Williams attacking the basket in the Nike Hyperize Pink/White

Anderson Varejao and Zyndrunas Illgauskas both wearing the Nke Hyperize Pink/White

Although Breast Cancer Awareness was set aside for October, that didn’t stop LeBron and the Cavs from recognizing it later in the season. At the beginning of December 2009, the Cleveland Cavaliers sported pink sneakers along with various pink accesories to show support for ?Box Out Breast Cancer?, a program designed to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Jermacans designed an alternate version of the Jordan Melo M6 in last year’s Jordan Future Sole contest. Carmelo Anthony liked it so much that he laced multiple colorways of the “Future Sole” Jordan Melo M6 throughout the second half of the season and on into the playoffs. Jermacans also got the chance to see his creation release to the public at the end of May. All this for a 17-year-old kid? We must applaud him!

It’s a shame that some of the best Air Max LeBron VII colorways will never release, and these two were definitely liked by many.
