When Michael Jordan<\/strong> entered the NBA, in 1984, after being drafted third overall in June of that year, he wasn’t expected to take home Rookie of the Year honors at the close of his debut season. By most estimations, that award would be taken by the draft’s No. 1 overall pick, Akeem Olajuwon, or the pick that followed, Sam Bowie. Neither happened.<\/p>\n

As history shows, Jordan excelled during his rookie campaign and subsequently took home the 1985 NBA Rookie of the Year award. A new Air Jordan 1<\/a> set to release this fall honors that hallmark start to his legendary career.<\/p>\n

Colored in a premium leather Sail base with overlaying brown contrasts, the latter is a reference to a shirt Jordan wore during his ROTY press conference. During said presser, fresh off his first major NBA accolade, MJ dropped a few gems — one of which is quoted inside the ankle collar flap.
