The shoes went a little lower this year and going into the 4 (Jordan CP3.IV), my next shoe, that is definitely something I’m thinking about. Maybe going even lower.

Snkrs Day: What can you tell me about the performance of the CP3.III and how it compares to the last shoe?

Chris Paul: One of the biggest changes? is the Podulon technology in the shoe that has never been used before in a basketball-based shoe. I can actually feel it in the shoe while I’m playing. Over the course of a game with all the cutting, changing directions and stopping and the defense that I hope I’m playing, I wanted to make sure the shoe is durable. I wanted to make sure I had stability. If something’s going on in the first quarter, I want to make sure my shoe is reacting and doing the same thing in the 4th quarter.

Chris Paul’s Jordan CP3.III Snkrs Day: How long was the process of creating a new technology?

Jason Mayden (Jordan CP.III Designer): We started developing the new technology even before we started working on the shoe which was around March 2008. So we figured out that technology way in advance. Then we met with Chris after the Olympics in June and he said he wanted something with a lower cut. So I’d say all in all, it was a little bit over a year.

Snkrs Day: How involved were you with the whole design and development of this shoe compared to some of last sneakers?

Chris Paul: Very involved. Just like all of the other shoes. I’m definitely not one of those people where they say, “hey, we put your name and your logo on it. Go play in it.” I’m very involved in it, and it’s actually a fun process. When I was a kid in high school and middle school, I would sit in class and try to sketch out shoes. So now to actually be able to do that is really the life. And it’s not on a piece of art paper. It’s the actual shoe that comes to life. There’s no greater feeling.

To read page 2 of the interview click here.

Snkrs Day: Do you appreciate shoes even more now that you’re able to partake in the design?

Chris Paul: Definitely. I think what really allows me to appreciate the shoe, is when I had the opportunity go over and see where the shoes were made. So I got to see the sole and shoestrings being put in my shoes. That right there made me speechless about the situation.

Chris Paul practicing in the Jordan CP3.III Snkrs Day: Do you have a favorite on court and off court sneaker in the Air Jordan series?

Chris Paul: My favorite on-court shoe might be the Air Jordan XX3. My favorite off-court is probably the Air Jordan XIII or the Air Jordan XI.

Snkrs Day: Is there a shoe you haven’t been able to get that you’re hunting for?

Chris Paul: I had the XIIIs stolen away from me when I was in the 6th grade but I got them back.

Chris Paul sporting his Gold Medal Snkrs Day: Defining moments has been a theme that Jordan has used in a lot of campaigns. If you were to pick three defining moments of your career, what were they and what shoes were on your feet when you accomplished these moments?

Chris Paul: The first one was when I scored 61 points in high school. We had these white, forest green Nike team shoes. The second is probably my first playoff game. I was wearing my CP1s against Dallas in New Orleans. The third one will have to be the gold medal games in the Olympics. I was wearing the XX3s then.

To read the rest of the interview click here. Snkrs Day: You talk about your son on Twitter quite often. How has your son motivated you as a player and a person?

Chris Paul: He motivates me unbelievably. He gave me a new outlook on everything. At one point, I used to just go out and play for myself and my family. Now, in everything I do, it’s all about him now. He J’s game is ridiculous too. I was going to take a picture of his closet and put it on Twitter.

Jordan CP3.III Snkrs Day: Everyone from our generation grew up watching Michael Jordan in awe. What was your reaction when you heard that Team Jordan was interested in having you be a member?

Chris Paul: Words can’t describe what that feeling was like. Growing up in North Carolina as a kid, you can have a dirty t-shirt but if it had a Jumpman logo on it you were good. Now, to be a part of that brand and to have my own shoe under that brand is something that I am extremely grateful for. Words cannot express my gratitude. It’s been an unbelievable ride and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Snkrs Day: When you talked with Jason about your third shoe, which would’ve been even before the second one released, what did you want to achieve with this third sneaker?

Chris Paul: We wanted it to perform at a high level on the court. We wanted it to have stability, durability and all those different things. We also wanted it to appeal off the court, so that you can just kick around in the shoes and you can wear them out with your friends and different things like that.

Snkrs Day: Business measures the success of the shoes by how well it sells in the market. As an endorsed athlete, how do you define success in a sneaker?

Chris Paul: Obviously, you want your shoe to sell, but this shoe will do great wonders if it can take me to the championship.

Over a four-year span, superstar Chris Paul has become one of, if not the best point guard in the NBA…

[1
1225452,1770,199,136130

2":"type-post

|
