Jordan Talks Being Teased as a Kid and Shares Training Tips in Short Film “Grounded”

Looking at Michael B. Jordan today, following towering performances in films like Creed and his upcoming role in Black Panther as Erik Killmonger, chief opposition to King T’Challa, you wouldn’t imagine he was ever a child of ridicule. But like many others, he was, largely because of the name he shared with the most famous athlete of all time.

“I feel like I’ve got to work twice as hard in life,” Jordan remarked. “I told myself at a young age that I was going to dedicate my 20s to work. I don’t go out all the time. I don’t party…I try to evolve and grow and work on myself.”

Jordan, considering his aforementioned roles, is almost always required to live in fighting shape, something he relates not only to physical health but mental well-being. “You only get one body, and you’ve got to take care of it as much as you can. And if you’re not in good shape, if you’re not mentally strong, if you’re not physically fit, being energized and getting through a busy day is going to be really tough.”

In a new training video, in which Jordan dons the newly released Nike Training Men’s Utility Tee, he shares several workout tips/routines and explains why boxing has become such a huge part of his life. “Boxing. It’s like, everything is connected when I connect. When you hit it clean, you just know it. You feel it. It just flows and it connects. Searching for those perfect punches is cool.”

Jordan, of course, boxed heavily in Creed, a film in which he trained greatly prior to shooting and during filming. It was in that picture that he also cemented his relationship with Jordan Brand to the masses, wearing almost all Jordan appeal and, famously, the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared.”
