Well to quote the great Dr. Evil, &#8220;How &#8217;bout no?&#8221; Yes, we lost a lot of great artists, athletes and people, had social division in the country beyond measures and experienced (or at least heard about) negativity at what felt like an all-time high. But you know, it wasn&#8217;t <em>all<\/em> bad.<\/p>\n<p>Stepping out of the negative and the sad, let&#8217;s take some time to focus on the positive and the happy, the fun and the joy, and all that pertaining to sneakers. Only making the highlights, here are some of the most heartwarming and feel good shoe stories of our 2016.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Giving Back<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-video\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Its good to give back to the man who&#8217;s always been by my side.???????? <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CoachWalser\">@CoachWalser<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/W4Sb5tMPim\">pic.twitter.com\/W4Sb5tMPim<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 @ Y O U N G H E C (@Augustine__09) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Augustine__09\/status\/778970842369757184\">September 22, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s keep it real: teachers and professional athletes are both heroes to many. While the two professions are often pitted against each other, they came together <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/high-school-student-surprises-teacher-jordans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when Hector Montez gave his hero of a teacher shoes tied to that teacher&#8217;s hero of an athlete<\/a>. Once hearing about it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/NiceKicks\/videos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nike jumped on and sent Hector shoes and a letter<\/a> as a token of their appreciation and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/new-champs-ad-stars-student-gave-teacher-jordans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Champs even included him in an ad campaign<\/a>. The awesomeness of Hector&#8217;s act <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/itsdeeyanee\/status\/811005564276785152\/video\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spurred more to do the same<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re reading this blog, odds are you&#8217;ve worn a Michael Jordan jersey or a pair of his shoes at some point to play basketball, mimicking his moves the best you could. But what about wearing his whole get-up head-to-toe for pickup? That&#8217;s exactly what Jeffrey Harrison aka CDA MJ does. Why? Because he suffers from autism and basketball is his drug &#8212; allowing him a way to focus and enjoy the things and people he loves. Hearing about this, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slamonline.com\/nba\/michael-jordan-sent-boxes-gear-autistic-fan\/#sHDGllleoD7C270F.97\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Jordan sent him a package of gear and even gave him a phone call.<\/a> It really doesn&#8217;t get any better than that.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Joy in Sports<\/h2>\n<p>You won&#8217;t find a city with more faithful fans than that of Cleveland. Experiencing years of heartache, LeBron James and company brought a title back to the town in one of the most exciting and dramatic comebacks in NBA Finals history. Fittingly, the Cubs faced the Indians in this year&#8217;s World Series for a seven-game thrill ride that saw the Windy City franchise win the &#8216;ship for the first time in over 100 years. Wrigleyville was jumping and baseball fever took over the nation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2023\/12\/404-dead-image.jpg'\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-493322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/04\/koc-mamba-8.jpg\" alt=\"Kobe Bryant in the Nike Kobe 11 &quot;Fade to Black&quot;\" width=\"1568\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/04\/koc-mamba-8.jpg 1568w, https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/04\/koc-mamba-8-200x130.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/04\/koc-mamba-8-750x490.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/04\/koc-mamba-8-950x620.jpg 950w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1568px) 100vw, 1568px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The game of basketball has seen many stars and personalities add to its rich history with this year&#8217;s Hall of Fame inductees and speeches proving exactly that. Sure to be a first ballot member of that elite fraternity is Kobe Bryant. While few legends see the storybook sendoff they deserve, Kobe&#8217;s last game was that of a fairy tale as the 18-year old prince of hoops left the game as a man on mission, willing his team to victory in Black Mamba fashion with a 60 point performance as the league watched and celebrated in his shoes. The best part of Mamba Day and his heroic final act? His last play was an assist.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Laughter<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tvk89PQHDIM\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Laugher is often the best medicine, word to the homie <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/premiumpete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premium Pete<\/a>. Once called smiling on steroids, we all got our share of laughs from the viral comedy of <em>Damn, Daniel<\/em>. The two high schoolers put a funny spin on standard swag, having the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/damn-daniel-vans-creating-a-buzz-on-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whole nation buying white Vans<\/a> for fun as much as fashion and even getting the attention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/ellen-vans-give-damn-daniel-lifetime-supply-of-sneakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ellen<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/daniel-lara-using-damn-daniel-fame-spread-generosity-kicks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also giving back<\/a>. For starters, the Nike MAG released for the first time with power laces and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/nike-mag-raises-6-75-million-continued-parkinsons-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised $6.75 Million for Parkinson&#8217;s Research<\/a>! While the great Craig Sager passed, his <a href=\"http:\/\/sagerstrongfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Sager Strong&#8221;<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/sager-strong-nikeid-air-force-1-releasing-tune-100-pairs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Air Force 1s<\/a> released to raise money for blood cancer research and education. On top of that, we saw Jacques Slade team up with Julius Randle and DICKS Sporting Goods <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/jacques-slade-talks-julius-randle-sneakers-first-dunk-supporting-youth-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for youth sports<\/a>, adidas and Parley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/interview-inside-adidas-parley-oceans-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help to save the oceans<\/a>, Hav a Sole <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/kicks-cause-hav-sole-lacing-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lace the nation<\/a>, Positive Vibes Warriors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/positive-vibe-warriors-vans-keep-wavy-good-cause-collab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">keep it wavy<\/a> with Vans, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/kicks-4-kids-founder-chekeita-jones-talks-giving-back-sneakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kicks 4 Kids give back to the youth<\/a> and countless other kind acts and causes supported through kicks.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Improving the Culture<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2023\/12\/404-dead-image.jpg'\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-518488 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/11\/jordan-11-space-jam-mens-size-1.jpg\" alt=\"Air Jordan 11 &quot;Space Jam&quot;\" width=\"940\" height=\"659\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/11\/jordan-11-space-jam-mens-size-1.jpg 940w, https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2016\/11\/jordan-11-space-jam-mens-size-1-750x526.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When looking at the country as a whole, it&#8217;s hard to say there was a bigger shoe release than the &#8220;Space Jam&#8221; Air Jordan 11s. The best part? It feels like everything went right. Moving the shoe up further from Christmas made for a calmer atmosphere and releasing plenty of pairs gave everyone the fairest and safest chance yet to score the ever-popular Toon Squad sneakers. Major props to Jordan Brand and all the mom and pop stores, malls and boutiques that released these during the middle of the day to ensure safety, kept employees from wearing them to keep it about the customers and kept things civil and joyful for an experience that should always be fun.<\/p>\n<p>Can we have a better year for sneaker culture in 2017? Why yes we can. Ending his stay in office, Barack Obama has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/president-obama-signs-law-making-ticket-buying-bots-illegal-sneakers-streetwear-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed a law to make ticket buying bots illegal<\/a>. Perhaps sneakers are next? 2017 could be the year that getting your single pair of Yeezys online with no line is a God dream turned reality.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here&#8217;s to an awesome 2017.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2016 was the worst, right?
