Creeping on a comeback, the My 5 resurgence continues with NYC’s Mr. Throwback. The jersey juggernaut has an affinity for nostalgia, keeping many an OG pair in his famed shop while rocking retros on the regular. Heavy on hoops silos but also adding a couple of favorites from the artist and running sector, see what kicks are in his rotation in the pages below.

Mr. Throwback: “Ewing dropped the Dream Team Eclipses from 1992 and I happened to have the original pair. They did a really good job on them. I’m thrilled to wear them because if I wear the OG ’92s they’ll crumble in two seconds. The OGs are on the mantle in my store and I can wear the retro pair. Recently, I walked into the Patrick Ewing event with the OG jersey from ’92 and he said, ‘Man, you need to lose some weight, that doesn’t even fit you.’ [Laughs]”

Nike Air Yeezy 1 Black/Pink

Mr. Throwback: “I can stand in Yeezy 1s for 12 hours. For me as a 33 year old guy that didn’t grow up on Yeezys, I can stay kind of cool as an older dude [Laughs] and these are super comfortable. When I go out with my wife, I don’t like wearing ‘adult’ dress shoes, so I wear sneakers. I was in Philly looking for another Mr. Throwback location and I came across Suplex which is a sneaker store. I saw the Black/Pinks and was like, ‘I’ve gotta have this pair.’ You can wear them with anything and they’re the most comfortable pair of Yeezys I own.”

“I’m obsessed with Yeezy 1s. Back in the day, I got the “Zen” 1s at a flea market. I assumed they were fake because they were $10. I bought them and went to Sole Exchange in 2013 and kids were offering me like $400 and they all told me they were 100% real. They were in bad condition, so the guy I traded my “Zen” 1s for had me add $300 to trade them for a pair of DS “What the” Dunks.”

Air Jordan 8 “Aqua”

Mr. Throwback: “I actually have all the pairs of “Aqua” 8s. I have the original pair from ’93, I have the 2007 pair that was breaking and I have the new pair. I would love to wear the original pair but you’d need to sole swap them. That costs like $200 so to buy the new pair is a lot easier.”

Air Jordan 11 “Concord”

Mr. Throwback: “I had the ’95 pair when I was a kid. I was 13 and back in the day it was all Jordan sneakers for me and every kid at my high school. I didn’t even wear them to school though, I wore them for Jewish League basketball. I scored my best game ever and then broke my ankle in them. [Laughs] I had 16 points in the first half and then I went up for a rebound and broke my ankle.”

“I also made customs for my wedding two years ago from the DMP 11s. We customized the Jumpman into wearing a tux and holding a ring. My wife wore the Anniversary 11s and we made them have a bride holding a bouquet of flowers.”

New Balance 998 “Bugs Bunny” NB1 Custom

Mr. Throwback: “New Balance NYC on IG hit me up and asked me to do a 1-of-1. I’m a big Space Jam fan so I did my own Mr. Throwback 998. I did these like an actual Bugs Bunny – the upper is grey and white, the tongue is pink like the tip of his ears and then the back has #1 like his jersey in Space Jam. I wear a ton of Space Jam jerseys so to have a matching sneaker was just an epic honor. I also did a Monstars pair that I rock constantly. I have really flat feet and need super comfortable sneakers always being on my feet at the store.”
