{"id":492671,"date":"2016-04-11T17:37:58","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T21:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/?p=492671"},"modified":"2016-04-11T20:00:15","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T00:00:15","slug":"thousands-ask-nike-sever-ties-donald-tump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/thousands-ask-nike-sever-ties-donald-tump\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands Ask Nike to Sever Ties with Donald Tump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nike<\/strong> is spending millions of dollars per year with polarizing presidential candidate <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> and thousands are calling for them to sever ties.<\/p>\n<p>Nike&#8217;s flagship Niketown store in New York City is located in a space that is owned by Donald Trump in the Trump Tower.<\/p>\n<p>California-based advocacy organization Courage Campaign calls for Nike to announce plans to relocate the store after its lease expires in 2017. According to the Courage Campaign, more than 34,000 people have signed <a href=\"http:\/\/act.couragecampaign.org\/sign\/NikeDumpTrump\/\" target=\"_blank\">the petition<\/a> since it launched last month for Nike to &#8220;Dump Trump.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"KonaFilter image-container display-table\"><span class=\"image on-image\" data-post-image=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" onerror=\"this.src='https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/files\/2023\/12\/404-dead-image.jpg'\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/static3.businessinsider.com\/image\/56f2a77e9105844e018b84ae-711-533\/nike-quarterly-sales-rise-41-percent.jpg\" alt=\"A customer exits the Niketown store in midtown Manhattan in New York June 25, 2015. REUTERS\/Brendan McDermid\/Files\" data-mce-source=\"Thomson Reuters\" data-mce-caption=\"File photo of a customer exiting the Niketown store in midtown Manhattan in New York\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earlier this year, Nike immediately dropped Manny Pacquiao for his abhorrent remarks on same-sex couples,&#8221; Laura Leavitt, the campaign manager of the Courage Campaign, said in a statement. &#8220;It cut ties with Maria Sharapova right away after she announced that she failed a drug test. But when Trump mocks a disabled reporter, makes sexist, racist and xenophobic comments, and encourages violence at political events \u2014 Nike does nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nike wouldn\u2019t be the first company to make a public statement against Trump if they do decide to take action.<\/p>\n<p>Macy\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/trump-boycott-macys-2015-7\">severed financial ties with Trump<\/a>\u00a0after he made a speech accusing the Mexican government of sending rapists and murderers across the border.
