As the litany of Air Jordan silhouettes continues to emerge within the 2016 calendar year, the renditions and variations have become apparent as well. For starters, the emergence of the Air Jordan 5 Low has captivated our attention as we present the latest edition of Throwback Thursday.

Headlined by a slew of PEs and interesting tidbits, this week’s edition of #TBT will absolutely peak your interest on this niche makeup. To see more, flip through the pages below to enjoy.

The Air Jordan 5 would be the first Air Jordan silhouette in some time, to return to a more “towering” aesthetic. The Air Jordan 3 and 4 provided Michael with more ankle flexibility with it’s low to mid-cut construction. However, with Michael becoming more formidable within the NBA and looking to redefine his physique, Tinker Hatfield created a higher cut sneaker and unveiled the first translucent outsole within the Air Jordan lineage.

Deriving inspiration from World War II fighter jets, this model fuses accents of the aforementioned war plane along the outsole with the jagged detailing. Furthermore, reflective 3M material canvased the tongue and Nike Air cushioning flowed throughout. As seen above and below, the shoe in its original form has remained a staple of modern day Kicks On Court.

The Air Jordan 5 would be unveiled during the 1989-90 season in which MJ would continue to assert his dominance on the Association by putting up averages of 32.5 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists per outing. In addition, his season high output of 69 points drew the admiration of many in a year that would ultimately witness MJ secure All-NBA honors and yet another All-Star selection.

The low-top variation of the Air Jordan 5 wouldn’t hit retailers until 2006, and was inevitably geared towards the lovely ladies in our lives. However, we did witness several Jordan Brand athletes sport 1-of-1 makeups of the Air Jordan 5 Low; and that includes Derek Anderson and Mike Bibby.

Anderson’s would be geared towards his days in Portland with cues of red and black throughout, while the Bibby iteration was molded after the stellar guard’s time in Sacramento.

As mentioned previously, the Air Jordan 5 Low would initially release in 2006’s White/University Blue-Team Red makeup and then once again in 2007 with the White/Black-Metallic Silver colorway. Both takes would be specifically catered towards women in sizing. It wouldn’t be until this year, 2016, in which the Jordan Brand would craft an Air Jordan 5 Low for men, as the Air Jordan 5 Retro Low “CNY” and “Alternate” will be available, along with other variations.

However, the amount of celebrities in the aforementioned silo has been few and far between as the most notable figures in the model has been the suddenly-iconic DJ Khaled and the MLB’s Dexter Fowler.

As the litany of Air Jordan silhouettes continues to emerge within the 2016 calendar year, the renditions and variations have…

[1232704,3,1225574
1225508,1206948,1225452,1225484

2":"type-post

The Creation // Air Jordan 5
