The end of an era is always a special thing. Whether you’re celebrating the much needed change of regime or celebrating the legacy of a certain entity or figure, conclusions provide finality within our lives that we all covet in some way. With the news of Charles Woodson deciding to retire at season’s end, this marks the end of an illustrious career in which many conclude that Woodson may be the most decorated football player ever. As a Heisman Trophy, Super Bowl ring and Defensive Player of the Year awards decorate his mantle, the previous assertion may be true. However, when it comes to kicks, Woodson was one of the first football endorsers of the Jordan Brand as his storied career had its fair share of heat.

To see some of Mr. Woodson’s greatest footwear moments check out this Gridiron Kicks Classic to reminisce on his career.

Tenure: 1995-97 Capturing the Hesiman trophy as a defensive player, Charles Woodson would defeat the likes of Future NFL Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Randy Moss for the prestigious prize. Helping boost the University of Michigan to prominence in the Rose Bowl, this do-it-all standout from Ohio sported cleated versions of the Nike Air Speed Turf and Nike Air Pro Streak Max during his tenure.

Tenure: 1998-2005 After being selected in the 1998 NFL Draft, plenty of NFL experts pegged Woodson as the next great defesnsive back within the NFL. It would be rather poetic that Woodson would become a fixture for the Oakland Raiders who have had a long history of iconic legends within their secondary. Inking a deal with Jordan Brand during the early stages of his career, Woodson would showcase a variety of stellar PEs such as the Air Jordan 9 during Super Bowl XXXVII.

Although his first stint in Oakland would end in unceremonious fashion, Woodson would revitalize his career and ultimately regain his iconic status.

Tenure: 2006-2012 After leaving Oakland and not fielding many offers on the free agent market, Woodson begrudgingly went to the Green Bay Packers during the Spring of 2006. However, his journey to Wisconsin would arguably help make Woodson a Hall of Famer as his stellar reemergence helped him procure his first Super Bowl title. Garnering numerous additional records along with Defensive Player of the Year, Woodson would be one of the few Jordan Brand endorsers to spend time in the frozen tundra.

Sticking with in-line models of the Jordan Super Fly series, as well as BCA inspired makeups during October, Woodson rocked a variety of JB silos. In addition to the Super Fly models, during a contest against the Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams, Woodson would be spotted in a suede makeup of the Air Jordan 9 with Packer hues throughout the upper.

Tenure: 2013-Present When Charles Woodson made his way back to Oakland in 2013, it was assured this would be the final stop for the defensive back. Making the switch to safety, Woodson would continue to be his trademark self, leading the league in interceptions during his final year in the Bay, and even picking off his Heisman Finalist and draft-mate Peyton Manning for the first time.

Much like his first stint in Oakland, Charles would don a variety of intriguing Air Jordan silhouettes that range from the Air Jordan 6, Air Jordan 7, Air Jordan 9, Air Jordan 11 Low and Air Jordan 12, all taking on Raiders-like hues throughout the upper or Breast Cancer Awareness themed cues. With another Pro Bowl selection in the books, this former Mr. Ohio Football star is certainly on his way to being perpetually enshrined within the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Select Photos via Zimbio

The end of an era is always a special thing.
