Each and every holiday season, plenty of basketball enthusiasts gather around the television to see what their favorite NBA players are sporting during the commemorative “Christmas Day” games. Dating all the way back to the Air Jordan 7 “Cardinal,” there has been quite the abundance of festively hued sneakers within recent years and arguably none was better than the “Grinch” Nike Kobe 6.

With that silhouette being remembered as a favorite among many, we decided to highlight the model for this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday.

To see for yourself, flip through the pages below to enjoy.

Around the arrival of the Nike Kobe 6, Kobe Bryant had amassed so many NBA accolades that plenty began to broach the topic of “Greatest Ever” when it came to the Black Mamba. With his five titles inching closer to Jordan’s six and the ever-so striking resemblance to MJ’s game, Kobe Bryant was forging a path that many had embarked on but few had endured.

Coming off of a championship season, the Los Angeles Lakers were primed for another run at the title. With essentially the same team returning during the 2010-2011 campaign, Bryant would hit the court in his latest signature, the Nike Kobe 6.

Featuring a lower cut that became accustom to his line, the Nike Kobe 6 featured a textured upper that derived from Kobe’s “Black Mamba” nickname as the embossed “snake scales” became a fan favorite. In addition, the upper would be backed by Nike Flywire technology and the angular design was created as a fashion forward approach to Kobe’s line.

Arriving in over 30 different and distinguishable colorways, the Nike Kobe 6 would ultimately grow to become one of the more popular hoops sneakers both on and off the court.

As mentioned previously, the 2010-11 season was a pretty strong year for Kobe Bryant. Amassing totals that fall in line with his play over the years, Mamba had averages of 27 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds per outing. With the then newly formed “Big Three” taking place in Miami at the time, few were focused on Bryant and Company as they chased a “Three-Peat”

However, on Christmas Day in 2010, Bryant gathered every sneakerheads’ attention as newly formed “Big Three” of the Miami Heat took on the Los Angeles Lakers in which Kobe brought out the “Grinch” Nike Kobe 6. Featuring incredibly vibrant hues throughout the upper, this rather tonal makeup also included dual laces coming in both red and the aforementioned “Grinch” green hue. Bryant would tally a rather mundane stat line on Christmas Day with the totals of 17 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

With versatility within both fashion and on-court performance, the Nike Kobe 6 is arguably one of the more solid silhouettes within the entire Black Mamba lineage. On occasion we’ve spotted several celebrities make their rounds in the model, such as Kanye West, Rob Kardashian and NFL safety Thomas DeCoud.

Also, within the realm of the NBA, several players have either iD’d the Nike Kobe 6 or sported an inline colorway such as DeAndre Jordan and Rajon Rondo.

Each and every holiday season, plenty of basketball enthusiasts gather around the television to see what their favorite NBA players…

[1224791,1225493,34
1225587,1203927,1225736,1225494,1225484

2":"type-post

Kobe Bryant: GOAT?
