2015 has been a big year for the re-emergence of notable silhouettes that canvassed retailers during the early 2000s. One model being the Air Jordan 6 Low and the other being the\u00a0Nike Air Presto<\/strong>, which the latter happens to be the focus of our latest edition of\u00a0Throwback Thursday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Detailing the fine history of the eclectic model created by the Hatfield lineage, the details of this line are certainly worth the view\u00a0as this #TBT is easily one of our favorites to date.<\/p>\n

In Context: The Year 2000<\/h2>\n

Before delving deep into the history of the Nike Air Presto, it’s important to understand the context of the year surrounding its initial release, which was the year 2000. Beginning things, the Y2k scare would send shockwaves throughout the world as plenty believed that an “electronic halt” would mark the beginning of the end; luckily that notion didn’t come to fruition.<\/p>\n

In addition, several notable films hit theaters such as Gladiator, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon <\/em>and Cast Away<\/em>. Also, Eminem would release his second LP, The Marshall Mathers LP<\/em>, which would showcase his rare talents and further propel him into the elite status of Hip-Hop.<\/p>\n

The Creation of the Nike Air Presto<\/h2>\n

A part of Nike’s “Alpha Project” series, the Nike Air Presto would revolutionize how consumers experienced “comfort” within a respective silhouette. Co-created by Tobie Hatfield, the younger brother of Tinker Hatfield, the Nike Air Presto would boast bold proclamations as Nike marketed the model as being a “t-shirt for your feet.”<\/p>\n

In addition, the Nike Alpha Project would be created to utilize statement level technology along with bringing about silhouettes such as the Shox series and the Flightposite iterations.<\/p>\n

In The Details: The Nike Air Presto<\/h2>\n

As mentioned previously, the Nike Air Presto would hit retailers during the year 2000. Created in mind to look similar to an Apple Imac G3, the Air Presto fused a form-fitting upper, with a neoprene lining and a side lace cape paneling providing\u00a0further lockdown support for consumers.<\/p>\n

Although shoe sizing is traditionally configured through numerical system, the Air Presto was constructed through a “XXXS-XXXL” run, further reinforcing the notion of being a “t-shirt for your feet.”<\/p>\n

Marketing Effects<\/h2>\n

The Air Presto would have a brilliant marketing campaign led by Nike’s marketing arm, Weiden & Kennedy<\/em>. Building upon the 13 different colorways, such SKUs elicited descriptive names such as Unholy Cumulus, Shady Milkman, Rabid Pand and Orange Monk, just to name a few. These innovative commercials would be very prominent as the animated characters would subsequently become a hit.<\/p>\n
