With his array of talent but deep history of injuries, some have definitive trouble at where to place Penny within the grand scheme of NBA legends. Nonetheless, Penny\u2019s legacy is almost second to none when it comes to kicks as his signature line still reigns supreme in many categories.<\/p>\n<p>With the &#8220;Sharpie Pack\u201d gracing retail shelves last week, this week\u2019s edition of Snkrs Day<strong> Throwback Thursday<\/strong> features the <strong>Nike Air Penny II<\/strong> &#8211; a model that has been seen on the likes of LeBron James and many others.<\/p>\n<p>To see for yourself, flip through the pages below to enjoy\u00a0<em>#TBT<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Penny, Penny, Penny<\/h2>\n<p>Upon his arrival into the association, Anfernee \u201cPenny\u201d Hardaway was a high-touted prospect coming out of Memphis State <em>(yes, Memphis STATE)<\/em>. Garnering his nickname from his grandmother&#8217;s\u00a0southern mispronunciation of \u201cpretty,\u201d Penny excelled at the lead guard spot and wowed the Orlando Magic during a pre-draft workout. Fusing a variety of innovative Nike detailing, Hardaway\u2019s signature line would become a fan favorite as his remarkable game and marketing campaign drew the desire of many consumers across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Built upon the success of his game and brand, the Nike Penny series would continue\u00a0with\u00a0the Nike Air Penny II in 1996.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yVmnb3z96zg\" width=\"1150\" height=\"863\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Nike Air Penny II<\/h2>\n<p>The Nike Air Penny II would hit retailers with much acclaim as the success of the guard began to permeate throughout the league. Releasing during the 1996-97 campaign, the Nike Air Penny II would blend details of Nike Air cushioning throughout the outsole, as well as Carbon Fiber within the midfoot as seen similarly within the Air Jordan 11.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, striking wave-like details canvas the upper as well further\u00a0accentuating\u00a0a solid second model to the Nike Air Penny lineage.<\/p>\n<p>Photo via Jwdanklefs<br \/>\n<!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>1996-97 Season<\/h2>\n<p>During the year in which Hardaway unveiled the Nike Air Penny II, he garnered another All-Star appearance in which he rocked aforementioned model in a distinctly <em>crisp<\/em>\u00a0white iteration.\u00a0Averaging 19.6 points per game, Hardaway would go-on to tally 5.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per outing as well.<\/p>\n<p>With Shaquille O\u2019Neal in Los Angeles, the Magic would succumb in the first round to the Miami Heat 3 games to 2 during the first round.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Legacy of the Nike Air Penny II<\/h2>\n<p>Since the initial release of the Nike Air Penny II, the legacy of it continues to rise, despite being nearly two decades old. With 12 retail releases under its belt, this silhouette has held a solid position within the landscape of Hardaway signatures.
