words & interview // Ian Stonebrook:

If you’re about beats and bars then you won’t find a duo deeper than PRhyme. Teaming up DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9, their formal follow up to the acclaimed Bar Exam mixtape series has released to rave reviews. See which kicks the tandem takes to in the latest My 5.

Royce da 5’9: “I got the De La Soul Dunks that just came out. I’ve worn those one time, but I’ve been keeping those kind of under wraps. I’ve got a feeling those are going to be worth something some day, plus I’m a big De La Soul fan.”

DJ Premier: “Shout out to Jon Wexler over at adidas. I’m not really into this type of sneaker but he told me to put them on because I have wide feet and he told me to give them a shot. As soon as I put them on I’ve been addicted to wearing these. It’s not my style of sneaker, but they feel so good. I just had a knee surgery and had a knee replacement so stairs are really funny. Even on steep stairs these Boosts are incredible. I know the Yeezys have the same cushioning.”

Royce da 5’9: “I love everything that Sean is doing and I 100% support everything that he’s doing. And I’m not just wearing them because I support him, I’m wearing them because it’s a really dope shoe.”

DJ Premier: “Anything New Balance that is 4E wide I’ll rock. I don’t care what color they are, they could be ugly and I’ll still rock them.”

Royce da 5’9: “Usually when I’m at home I wear the Visvim sneakers. The brown with the fringe on the side is my favorite. I’ve been on them for a while, I was on them a little earlier than everybody else I must say.”

Royce da 5’9: “I had them on ice for a couple years now, about as long as I’ve been back cool with Marshall. It’s been a few years, that was one of the first things [when we got back] that he gave me. I felt like that was the right time to pull them out and let everybody know that I’ve got a couple missiles sitting around.”

DJ Premier: “I never wore mine because I wanted to keep them new and keep them as a souvenir.”

Nike SB Dunk High Premium “De La Soul”
