With that in mind, we&#8217;ll continue to highlight some of Bryant&#8217;s most iconic All-Star moments as today we take things back to 1998 in which Kobe made his first All-Star game appearance, all while rocking his first signature sneaker, the adidas KB8, now known as the <strong>adidas Crazy 8<\/strong>. With a new look that would involve a trademark afro, Bryant would increase his season averages to 15.4 points per game, along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per outing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1x3cOWs0bRM?rel=0\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Star Status<\/h2>\n Photo via gamesdbase\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the boost in Bryant&#8217;s playing time, the subsequent endorsements and &#8220;Madison Avenue&#8221; appeal began to develop as well. During 1998, the remarkable guard would unveil his very own signature model, the adidas KB8, along with securing a lucrative endorsement deal from Sprite, in which he was featured within a commercial starring future Hall of Fame forward Tim Duncan. In addition, the aforementioned year\u00a0would witness Bryant become the youngest athlete to have a video game in his namesake as <em>Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside<\/em> was released for the Nintendo 64 gaming console.<\/p>\n<p>However, while those endorsements were evident of Bryant&#8217;s growing status within the NBA, it was his selection for the 1998 NBA All-Star Game that caught the attention of many NBA enthusiasts. Not only was Kobe a non-starter for the Lakers, he became the youngest stater in NBA All-Star Game history and also became the fourth Laker to make the team of twelve All-Stars within\u00a0the Western Conference&#8211; a feat that up until that point hadn&#8217;t been accomplished since 1983. This All-Star Game would ultimately say goodbye to one legend and introduce the world to another.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Welcome to The Big Apple: 1998 NBA All-Star Game<\/h2>\n<p>The season before, Kobe dazzled us all by winning the 1997 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. However, during the 1998 NBA All-Star weekend, his talents were exclusively reserved for Sunday night as he took part in the All-Star Game in Madison Square Garden. Featuring the likes of Tim Duncan, Shaquille O&#8217;Neal and Michael Jordan, this contest would ultimately become a proving ground for Bryant, who laced up a PE colorway of the adidas KB8.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bryant would not disappoint as he turned in a outing of 18 points and six rebounds, all while showcasing two stellar dunks and going one-on-one with the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan. The aforementioned model employs the brand&#8217;s Torsion System which was an insert in the midfoot to provide torsional flexibility between the forefoot and rearfoot. In addition, the silhouette features an EVA midsole for added performance functionality, along with an inner-lining bootie constructed to minimize friction for prospective athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, the abundance of NBA players rocking PE versions of the adidas Crazy 8 is vast as we&#8217;ve seen the likes of Derrick Rose, Brandon Knight and Jrue Holiday hit the hardwood in\u00a0the model.
