Desus vs. Mero<\/strong> is a movement<\/em>. While they\u2019re picking up steam and becoming well known throughout internet circles due to\u00a0their trolling of mainstream media and candid takes on pop culture, the Bronx duo is suddenly approaching cult-level status. Their rise has captured the eyes of many, including MTV2, as the pair will soon be regulars on the hit franchise\u00a0Guy Code<\/em> and the soon-to-air series Joking Off.<\/em> Nonetheless, we caught up with the two to get their My 5<\/a>, in which they detailed some of their favorite kicks ever and those within their respective rotations. So whether you abide by that adages of “Gotta Hear Both Sides”<\/em> or “Knowledge Darts,”<\/em>\u00a0this My 5 is definitely for you.<\/p>\n

Nike Air Trainer 1<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero<\/strong>: “Stylistically, my favorite sneaker of all-time is the Nike Air Trainer – the “Bo Jacksons.”\u00a0<\/em>Those are my favorite sneaker ever, because growing up everybody was like, \u201cJordan, Jordan, Jordan…\u201d I grew up in the 90s as a Knicks fans, so I hated Michael Jordan. I actively looked for sneakers that Nike was putting out that weren’t Jordans just to be contrarian, even though the sneakers were dope.”<\/p>\n

Reebok Kamikaze<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong>\u00a0“You remember the Shawn Kemp Kamikazes? The first ones? Yeah, those would have to be in there because I was a huge Shawn Kemp fan. He had just done damage on Team USA and I remember my cousin ruined it because he was like, \u201cYou know Shawn Kemp has mad children that he\u2019s not taking care of?\u201d Of course my response was, \u201cWhat does that have to do with basketball?\u201d So, my cousin kind of ruined it for me.”<\/p>\n

Nike Air Zoom Turf Jet\u00a0Series<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero:<\/strong> \u201cNext would have to be the Nike Air Turf Jet series, the ones that Barry Sanders rocked. Those were dope.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ewing 33 Hi<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong>\u00a0“Because I\u2019m Jamaican, I have to throw in the Patrick Ewing 33 Hi’s with the half pound tongue. You couldn\u2019t get any vertical leap. When you\u2019re rocking them they feel like space boots and when you play in the paint you have to have a nasty Jamaican attitude.”

Air Jordan IV<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero:<\/strong> “Man, you know what, the Jordan IVs have to be on the list. I hated Jordan so much, but those sneakers were so fly; and they work with everything. It\u2019s kind of a simple shoe, but at the same time it\u2019s not.”<\/p>\n

Brooks Highlight<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong>\u00a0“In 1985, Dominique Wilkins had the Highlight Brooks. I thought those were so dope, and I didn\u2019t realize that Brooks was like a mad wack company at the time…”<\/p>\n

Nike Air Trainer Huarache “Dominican Republic”<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero:<\/strong>\u00a0“Remember the old white Huaraches with the Dominican Flag on them? [Nike Air Trainer Huarache \u201cDominican Republic\u201d] All sneakerheads are like,\u00a0\u201cThose are awful, those are terrible,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0but I\u2019m like, “Yo, I love them.” However, you can only wear an all-white shoe like three or four times because after that you start looking mad dusty and grey. If you drop some ketchup on your sh*t, its a wrap. That\u2019s why I have to place them so low.”<\/p>\n

Nike Air Max CW Sensation<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong> “The Chris Webber 95 Air Max are definitely in there for me.”

Nike Air Max2 CB 94<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero:<\/strong>\u00a0“The Nike Air Max 2 CB 94 were fire, and they\u00a0had the air bubble in them. Those sh*ts were mad comfortable. You could be on the block with those and they were hard to scuff. Those kicks were major for me as a kid.”<\/p>\n

“At that time, Barkley was just a badass. Even as a kid, I was very aware of athletes talking in cliches and being corny, and Barkley wasn\u2019t like that, he didn\u2019t care about being a role-model; he was kind of like a goon, and I liked that.”<\/p>\n

Reebok Shaq Attaq<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong> “The 1994 Shaq Attaq\u2019s with the Pump?! Maaan, those were great!”

The Kid Mero’s Most Memorable\u00a0Sneaker Story<\/h2>\n

The Kid Mero:<\/strong> “When the 11s dropped, I literally called my pops and told him, \u201cPops, I hate Jordan but I\u2019ve never seen pleather on a shoe before. These sh*ts are fire, I need them.\u201d My Pops was always down to buy me sneakers but I always had to do something in return. So, I worked for him for weeks, woke up early on the weekends to work with him to earn them. By the time I had earned them and went to the stores, they were sold out everywhere. They were sold out to the point where stores were putting signs up in the window stating: “We don\u2019t have these, don\u2019t come in here.” We drove around the entire Bronx, all through Washington Heights, everywhere; and I never got them. That had to be a major disappointment for me as a child.”<\/p>\n

Desus Nice’s Memorable Sneaker Story<\/h2>\n

Desus Nice:<\/strong> “I once went on a date with a girl in a pair of Foamposites that were a size too small and halfway through the date, which was a concert, I had to take my shoes off and just stand there in my socks. I was hoping she wouldn’t notice because my feet were hurting so much, but she definitely was like, “I saw you take off your shoes.” My only reaction was, “Damn, you caught me, Ma.””<\/p>\n
