With this morning’s release of the Air Jordan 6 Black/Infrared, the Year of the 6 was officially in the books. With 10 men’s releases and 5 GS and smaller drops, the shoe celebrated its 23 year anniversary in a big way. Jordan Brand held (almost) nothing back releasing all but one OG colorway of the Air Jordan 6 and used the silhouette in everything from MJ history lessons to a collaboration.

Flip through and have a look at our ranking for the best Air Jordan 6s of 2014.

#10 – “Cigar” Air Jordan 6 Premium

Air Jordan 6 Premium “Cigar”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 Premium “Cigar” All in all, the Year of the 6 was a strong one and one shoe had to be the last placed vote. Michael Jordan won his first NBA Championship while sporting the Air Jordan 6 in 1991 and this execution of the Air Jordan 6 was to represent the celebration cigar MJ famously smoked after taking down Magic and the Lakers.

#9 – “History of Jordan” Air Jordan 6

Air Jordan 6 “History of Jordan”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 “History of Jordan” Any given Saturday it is hard to disagree with a predominantly red retro Air Jordan, but frankly, by summer of 2014, the all red get up was tired.

#8 – “Brazil” Air Jordan 6 Premium

Air Jordan 6 “Brazil”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 Premium “Brazil” The whole world caught the World Cup fever including a brand named after a legendary basketball player. Jordan Brand celebrated the event with a capsule of accessories, apparel, and a $500 double-sneaker box set. Unfortunately, your ticket to the “Brazil” Air Jordan 6s was nearly as much as a one-way to Rio.

#7 – “Infrared 23” Air Jordan 6

Air Jordan 6 “Infrared 23”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 “Infrared 23” The Air Jordan 6 returned All-Star Weekend in large numbers with the OG White/Infrared colorup and then in limited form with the “Infrared 23” make up. Jordan Brand threw “23” to the suffix of almost every reference of the color throughout the year in case anyone was confused who made the hue hot.

#6 – “Champagne” Air Jordan 6 Premium

Air Jordan 6 Premium “Champagne”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 Premium “Champagne” The Air Jordan 6 “Celebration Collection” was a hot grab mid summer, but without question, the execution of the theme of a Champagne bottle stood a toast above the Cigars. The shoes also lent themselves to countless Instagram photos with a whole host of props we saw coming…

#5 – Air Jordan 6 White/Infrared

Air Jordan 6 White/Infrared
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 White/Infrared The Year of the Air Jordan 6 got off on a good foot with the release of this OG classic.

#4 – Slam Dunk x Air Jordan 6

Slam Dunk x Air Jordan 6
Shoe: Slam Dunk x Air Jordan 6 Jordan Brand had a lot in store for the Air Jordan 6 in 2014 including being the canvas for a collaboration. The Slam Dunk x Air Jordan 6 told the story of the impact and influence of the Slam Dunk manga that introduced hundreds of thousands across Asia to the sport of basketball and the Air Jordan line of shoes.

#3 – Air Jordan 6 “Sport Blue”

Air Jordan 6 “Sport Blue”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 “Sport Blue” Jordan Brand held out as long as they could from bringing back this OG colorway, but after 23 years at last it returned. One solid victory too from its release was to finally end the argument between turn of the century NTers whether the color was called “Sport Blue” or “September Blue”. #victory

#2 – Air Jordan 6 “Carmine”

Air Jordan 6 “Carmine”
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” The Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” returned once before, but all the way back in May of 2008 in a $310 Countdown Pack. Crazy how quickly 6 years go by and crazy how whether you had a pair in ’08 or not, these were a necessity.

#1 – Air Jordan 6 “Black/Infrared”

Air Jordan 6 Black/Infrared
Shoe: Air Jordan 6 Black/Infrared It is hard to beat a classic as great as the Air Jordan 6 and even harder to beat the Black/Infrared colorway on the shoe. This time the shoe returned closest to original form with the Infrared (called by Jordan Brand as “Infrared23”) being only a hair of a shade off from the OG and reflective underlays which have not been seen since 1991.

With this morning’s release of the Air Jordan 6 Black/Infrared, the Year of the 6 was officially in the books.…

[1232705,3,1225574
1225555,1225452

2":"type-post
