Happy Birthday Rick!

There are few people in this industry that I have had the pleasure of meeting as humble and genuine as Rick Williams. Period. #endofstory

In my personal opinion, his talent and his work is easily the most overlooked. With consistently great executions and story lines that rival a History Channel documentary, Rick’s work and contributions into footwear are the blue print for what makes a great story telling sneaker.

Have a look through at a history of Rick Williams’ sneaker projects including his part in the Burn Rubber collabs as well as from his special project The Distinct Life.

Today is your day, Rick, and we salute you for your continued success and contributions to the business.

Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 “Joe Louis”

Project: Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 “Joe Louis”

Release Date: 11/16/13

Getting the call from Rick on this project had me excited before even seeing the shoe. Rick and Ro of Burn Rubber celebrated the heritage of boxing in their hometown of Detroit and namely Joe Louis with this project. F&F’s received the shoes in a violin case which told the story of how Joe Louis traded in his violin for boxing gloves. For .50 cents a lesson, his mother sacrificed the little she had for her son to pursue becoming a violinist. When a close friend introduced the legend to the world of boxing, legend has it that he would hide his boxing gloves in his violin case as not to upset his mother who he knew would not approve.

In all my years in this sneaker thing, I haven’t seen a story told through a sneaker quite like this one.
