“Player Exclusives” are not always exactly that. Yes, the majority of team themed colorways with athlete specific tagging are generally reserved for those on a roster, but occasionally they make it to retail. In celebration of a Yankee legend and longtime Jordan Brand member seeing his own pair of personalized retros release, we take a look back at the Air Jordan PEs that have been made available to the public for purchase.

Year: 2014

On the diamond, Derek Jeter hones a great game, strong signature line and sick PEs. Though DJ favors the AJ1 in his downtime more than on the job, this PE colorway pays tribute to one of the best players baseball has ever seen. Jeter specific tagging and a Yankees color code has fans from New York and beyond looking to take home a pair.

Year: 2004

The Air Jordan 2 got the Denver treatment with this special PE pair inspired by Carmelo Anthony. Early in his career, the young Nugget was well known for rocking retros on court that no one else could get. This AJ2 released with out tagging specific to Melo, but they certainly derived from his hardwood exclusives.

Year: 2007

The first Air Jordan PE? Before the rings, Michael Jordan saw numeric tagging on the Black/Silver and “Fire Red” colorways of Air Jordan 5 game shoes. While the “Fire Red” makeup released to the public with #23 stitching, it wouldn’t be until 2007 that the Black/Silver makeup dropped with that detail.

Year: 2008

As part of a push for the early House of Hoops locations, Air Jordan 8 PEs for both Ray Allen and Quentin Richardson released in limited quantities. A Boston colorway denoted the Sugar Ray pair, while Q-Rich’s take rocked with his team at the time, the New York Knicks.

Year: 2004

Carmleo Anthony was getting laced with Air Jordan PEs since Day 1 and fans were taking notice. After dropping a very Melo colorway of the Air Jordan 12 as a women’s exclusive, Jordan Brand re-released the exact same White/University Blue makeup in men’s sizes. While the shoe didn’t see any #15 tagging or nickname nods, this colorway was first debuted as a PE on the feet of Carmelo.

Year: 2011

An OG member of Team Jordan, Ray Allen leads the league in all-time 3PT FGs and all-time AJ PEs. Celebrating his winning ways in Boston, the Air Jordan 13 Ray Allen PE sported a Celtics colorway and logo tagging on the tongue. These were very hard to get, releasing at very select retail locations and randomly online in small size runs.

Year: 2010

Designed with Dwyane Wade in mind, the Air Jordan 2010 “W3LCOME HOME” featured a themed color code that coincided with Flash’s Chi Town roots and Miami Heat hues. Though this model was not a huge hit at retail, this did mark the first time a current Air Jordan signature was brought out in a theme crafted for a player that wasn’t MJ. The closest iteration before was the AJ 10’s “City Series” collection which released in more regional than personal fashion.

Year: 2013

No one on the hardwood has swagger like Russ. The OKC PG’s bold style and brash athleticism were showcased in fitting fashion on three PE makeups of the Air Jordan XX8. While the face and feet of the shrouded signature wore many more PE pairs over the course of the season, these three styles hitting retail was a win for fans and hoopers alike.

“Player Exclusives” are not always exactly that.
