Vibrant and vivid colorways commonly govern the summer months year in and year out. Brands routinely unleash the brightest of sneakers during the three-month period midway through the year when everyone is out and about enjoying the sun. At the same time, we’ve noticed the sprinkling of dark, tonal and subtle-colored sneakers during these months in preparation of the fall and winter seasons. Matter of fact, there has been a number of highly-anticipated, all-black releases during the summer over the years. Today, we take a look back at 12 memorable, all-black sneaker summer drops.<\/p>\n
During the summer of 2007, Jordan Brand prepared the masses for summer with lively, vibrant colorways of the Air Jordan 3, such as the re-release of the “Fire Red” 3, the Orange Peel-accented Air Jordan 3 “Cool Grey,” the “Do the Right Thing” 3 and the “Pure Money” colorway. The rare “Black Cat” Air Jordan 3 stuck out like a sore thumb in its subtle, all-black allure during the month of June.<\/p>\n

Before the \u201cStealth” Foamposite and today’s “Triple Black” Foam were considered, this all-black-everything Foamposite One – outsole included – showed face in August of 2007. \u00a0This\u00a0Foamposite was not highly-coveted in most parts of the nation, but they were apportioned massively in the Washington D.C. and New York City areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Much like the rollout of Air Jordan 3 retros in 2007, the Air Jordan 10 retro campaign in July of 2005 featured three summer-ready colorways – “Linen,” “Ice Blue,” and White\/Varsity Red – in addition to simple color schemes, namely the re-release of the “Steel” 10 and this all-black makeup, which also featured a white Jumpman logo on the heel.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Low-top sneakers always thrive in the summer months.\u00a0In 2002, Jordan Brand kicked off June with three low-cut versions of the Air Jordan XVII Low. The “Lightning” Air Jordan XVII Low, a shoe Michael Jordan debuted in the 2002 NBA All-Star Game, was accompanied by the “Carolina” version and this all-black, chrome-accented pair on the same day.<\/p>\n The 1982-born Nike Air Force 1 was celebrated in its 28th year at the inaugural World Basketball Festival in 2010. The Jay-Z x Nike Air Force 1 “All Black Everything” Pack, which surfaced in August of 2010, was presented during this time and featured all-black, tonal makeups of this silhouette in honor of the five participating countries \u2013 USA, Puerto Rico, China, Brazil, and France. Each pair possessed its own unique contrast of materials \u2013 nubuck, pony hair and patent leather \u2013 in addition to a\u00a0special insole and bottom sole. Each of the five pairs were exclusive to\u00a0eBay, and all of the proceeds went to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Summer 2009’s Penny highlight was undoubtedly the “Atlantic” Nike Air Penny II, but this “Triple Black” pair, an August 2009 release, served as a nice consolation prize to those who didn’t get their hands on the former.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Air Jordan 8 Black\/Chrome arrived a bit earlier than the normal Summer months for some, considering Summer officially begins in June. Yet, May represents the mid-point between spring and summer to some (in other words, that’s summer time). This 2003, all-black durabuck shoe dropped right before the more summer-ready Air Jordan 8 Low\u00a0White\/Chrome\/Metallic Silver in June of the same year.<\/span> <\/p>\n The low-top versions of King James’\u00a0signature sneakers really took off during the LeBron 8 campaign. The Sprite, Solar Red, Cool Grey dominated the summer, while the “Miami Night” pair commanded attention in the fall. The gap between those releases was filled with this stylish-yet-subtle “Blackout” version of the low-cut LeBron, which released in July 0f 2011. The “Snakeskin” Kobe 9 Mid EXT is the perfect sneaker for the Fall months, which is why Nike probably unleashed it at the tail end of this summer last week. Its stealthy-yet-aggressive look is built for the less sunny days, and the gum rubber outsole is ideal for off-court wear.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Six models – the Nike Air Max 1, Air Huarache, Air Trainer 1 Low, Roshe Run, Roshe Run Woven, and the adidas ZX Flux – make up the “Triple Black” Pack, which dropped at the beginning of this month. Although the pack was initially reported as a Europe exclusive,\u00a0the black Huaraches of this sextet released in U.S. locations.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Much like the aforementioned Air Jordan 8 Black\/Chrome, the “Black Cat” Air Jordan 4 released before summer officially began in May of 2006. It specifically kicked off what would be a summer dominated by Air Jordan 4 colorways, as it was followed by the Pure Money, Tour Yellow, Mist Blue, Fire Red, Thunder and Lightning colorways of MJ’s fourth signature shoe.<\/p>\n Today’s release is the third rendition of an all-black Foamposite, with now two being released during the summer months. In 2007, the all-black Foamposite One released in August, and seven years later, we witness it on shelves again. This time, we see it engulfed in suede.
