Back in 2011, we paid tribute to the long-awaited “Bordeaux” Air Jordan 7 drop. Coinciding with a topical Lil Wayne mixtape release and some referential lead image art by Alex Kroviak, Sorry 4 the Wait counted down the Air Jordan retros that took the longest to come out of retirement and also called up a few we were still waiting for. In 2014, the list has grown longer, some would say on both ends. In honor of the “Sport Blue” 6s, we’ve revamped and remastered the classic feature to compile The Longest Awaited Retro Releases in Air Jordan History. Let us know which wait felt the longest for you in the comment section.

Model: Air Jordan 12 Wait: 15 years

Patience is a virtue and waiting can give you the blues. In 2012, Jordan Brand granted the wishes of all waiting for an “Obsidian” 12 retro by dropping them in proper, mid-top form.

Model: Air Jordan 9 Wait: 16 years

A strong run of 9s in ’02 saw two OG colorways noticeably absent. Both were welcomed back after being teased on retro cards and given the Fusion treatment prior.

Model: Air Jordan 5 Wait: 16 years

The Fresh Prince favorites came back for their driver’s license. Most had to take the bus as this LS release was hard to get.

Model: Air Jordan 7 Wait: 16 years

A 16-year wait? What’s up Mike? This Bugs Bunny-inspired pair had to be packaged with a pair of AJ 16s to return.

Model: Air Jordan 4 Wait: 17 years

After a limited Laser run in ’05, Jordan heads were fiending for the OG. The “Fire Reds” came back for real the next year with a Mars stamp as did the “Military Blues.”

Model: Air Jordan 6 Wait: 17 years

Countdown Packs contributed to the return of many OG colorways. The “Carmine” 6s came back appropriately with the Jordan 17.

Model: Air Jordan 3 Wait: 19 years

It took almost two decades, but finally, Fred Savage wasn’t the only person with a pair of fresh “Fire Red” 3s.

Model: Air Jordan 6 Wait: 19 years

Does it take a pack to see a great comeback? Not always, but it’s a common theme. The White/Infrared 6s came back with their nubuck counterpart causing lineups across the country.

Model: Air Jordan 7 Wait: 19 years

Better late than never, but never late is better. In 2011, the boldest Air Jordan 7 came back to jam again.

Model: Air Jordan 1 Wait: 22 years

Old love met Wu love on this welcomed return.

Model: Air Jordan 6 Wait: 23 years

Finally, Jerry Seinfeld won’t be the only person with a fresh pair of these. After 23 years of waiting, the Air Jordan 6 “Sport Blue” received the retro treatment. Will the “New Maroon” pair be next?

Model: Air Jordan 1 KO Wait: 25 years

After 25 years no one is quite sure what the KO stands for, but the canvas bring back is still a knockout.

Back in 2011, we paid tribute to the long-awaited “Bordeaux” Air Jordan 7 drop.
