High fashion, footwear and streetwear are colliding and Easy Otabor is in the middle of it all. The operator of Chicago’s RSVP Gallery brings in everything from Givenchy to BAPE, offering Wind City shoppers a world class range of style staples, artsy accessories and required reading. Whether snow stomping in the Midwest or taking meetings in Milan, Otabor represents his iconic and eclectic taste tactfully through his footwear choices. Find out what Easy’s rocking these days in this installment of My 5.

Easy Otabor: “I probably got these five or six years ago. I always buy new pairs. I have like two ’01 “Breds” right now. I love original colorways and the quality then. Ever since high school when they came back out, I loved the Jordan 1s. They were all numbered and I had the all-silver 1s at the time. It’s a nice silhouette- it’s not too wide, not too bulky and it fits well with all my jeans now. I’m always for silhouettes.” Easy Otabor: “I really don’t wear the Royals like that, but right now they’re in my rotation. I’m from Chicago and traditionally we always love the Bulls colorways. The Black/Blue is cool, but there ain’t nothing like a pair of black and red Jordans. For me personally though, it’s always about what I like. If you compare the ’01s to the ’13s, the accents are so much brighter than all the recent retros. That blue is just so much more vibrant than the recent ones. The ’01s are a little bit lower too, and that’s what I’m a little more comfortable with.”

Easy Otabor: “Those are like my go-to shoe. With my style now, I’m really into a lot of earth tone colors at the moment– olive green, off-white, tans, rust red. When you’re wearing all these fall colors, it’s hard to throw on a pair of “Bred” 1s or “Infrared” 6s. It works sometimes, but I like not even thinking about what I’m wearing sometimes. I can get up and go, throw on my all-white Achilles Mids, and I know it’s going to be fresh. Sometimes, I think some shoes can take away from an outfit. With the Achilles, it all proportions and aligns.”

Easy Otabor: “I got them in Milan when they were on sale. I was doing a Givenchy buy for the store out in Milan and I stopped by the Nike Stadium store. They still had my size and I had to buy them. I wear those when I know I’m going to be on my feet all day or running around. It’s my go-to shoe when I know I want to be comfortable. The Free 5.0 bottom is super comfortable for me and they’re breathable. I never wear jeans with those– it’s always Philip Lim, Acne or Nike Tech sweatpants. I think the contrast stitching in that shoe is great, so usually I just wear grey or a black black sweats.”

Easy Otabor: “I used to work at Athlete’s Foot from when I was 16 to maybe when I was 21, on and off. When I was at college, my old store got them and I told them they had to save me a pair because I’d been working there for years. [Laughs] So, I drove all the way back from Northern Illinois to Chicago to pick this pack up. It was crazy. People were getting robbed and fighting for them, so I had to pull up in the back and they had to throw them in a black bag. At college, nobody had them. I’ve kept them pretty clean since. I was really into the 11s too, but I think my aesthetic changed. The 11s will always be my first love because my brother got me into collecting shoes, but what I wear now doesn’t really go with the 11s.”

Shop at RSVP Gallery here and keep up with Easy on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.

High fashion, footwear and streetwear are colliding and Easy Otabor is in the middle of it all.
