The Atlanta hip-hop scene is on fire. Future, Migos, Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug are among the many talented ATL MCs championing new styles while scorching the club, web and radio airwaves. A common thread in their creative fuel is producer Metro Boomin. The Saint Louis native behind “I Won,” “Club Going Up (Tuesday)” and “Chanel Vintage” is pumping out bangers behind the boards and laying the canvas for new artists with truly new sounds. Recently, we spoke with Metro to hear what’s on the feet of the man that makes the beats in this installment of My 5.

Metro Boomin: “I’ve got a bunch of shoes, and a lot of them sit here, but for the most part I wear a lot of all-white Air Force 1 Mids. They’re just all over my house. I try to make them a part of my brand and people pick up on it like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s always got those on,’ but they’re clean every time you seen them. I’m from Saint Louis so Air Force 1s are a big part of my childhood.”

Metro Boomin: “I didn’t even know people were going crazy for them. I was out in Vegas at Barneys with Future and I was just trying to get something to wear since I was out of town for the night. I saw those shoes and I liked the high top pair.”

Metro Boomin: “I’ve been calling around all week, looking for a new pair of Air Jordan 1s. I know about Jordans and I rock Jordans, but I’m not on it as much as the average person. I don’t keep all the way up on it, I just like fly stuff.”

Metro Boomin: “I’ve been wearing my Margielas a lot lately. I was at Lenox in Atlana at Neiman Marcus, there was a goldish-copper pair and a pinkish-coral pair. I tried them both on and this girl kept telling me to get the other ones. I definitely went with the coral ones. You’ve got to set the trend, I haven’t seen anybody with them on.”

Metro Boomin: “I was in LA with Travi$ Scott, shopping and stuff, and we went to RIF. They pulled like three pairs of BAPEs from the back, all deadstock, even those Pharrell ones. I’ve worn those like twice. I can definitely say Pharrell was an influence. I was a huge fan of the Clipse and Lord Willin’ is one of my favorite albums ever. I understand where people like Pharrell and Kanye are coming from with the music, art direction and connecting that with fashion.”

Metro Boomin’s “Chanel Vintage” featuring Future and Young Thug is available now on iTunes.
