Truth be told, the Converse Chuck Taylor could remain relevant for another century by just dropping in the standard, black and white canvas form. While the model is almost 100 years old, it’s managed to move and maneuver with times, namely by holding on to its values, but also by collaborating with some of the best in the business. As Concepts looks to launch their latest interpretation of the All-Star silo, we look back at some of our favorite collaborators that have revamped the Chucks.

Different ends of the sneaker spectrum met in the middle on the Maison Martin Margiela x Converse Chuck Taylor Collection. The staple All-Star held shape and tone, doused with a fresh coat of MMM’s white paint. The more the shoe was worn, the more it showed its true colors and canvas composition.

Appealing to both genders, a string of Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor collaborations have launched to positive fanfare. The mix of the shoe’s easily recognizable shape with Missoni’s can’t miss weaves make these the best of both worlds.

The boys from Boston have a strong resume with the Chuck Taylor. While the “Zaire Leopard Camo” colorway is sure to break next, the the shop and the shoes connected with La MJC previously for the “Paris Loves America” All-Stars.

In 2008, Fragment Design paired up with Converse for a (PRODUCT)RED take on the low top Chucks. In 2012, Fragment Design teamed up with frequent friend of Converse, UNDFTD, for bold but basic takes on the Chucks in all-red (pictured above) and all-white.

As you already know or will observe, many of the Converse Chuck Taylor collaborations stem from the (PRODUCT)RED campaign in support of AIDS awareness. This Parra pairing still proves to be one of the best, placing cherry bomb embroidery on a sandy upper.

CLOT and Converse have linked up for many collaborations, using the Pro Leather silo in abundance. One of our favorite Chuck Taylor team-ups is their grey suede take on the Ox. Smooth styling and subtle hits of gum made for a clean colorway in the often busy world of collabs.

Lupe Fiasco teamed up with Converse for a good cause on these (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylors for AIDS Awareness. A black patent leather upper proved awesome, while red accents tied together the theme. These dropped at David Z and later launched in low top form.

Crafted for colette, the Kevin Lyons x Converse Chuck Taylor made the most of the artist’s unique aesthetic on the classic canvas. Cartoon graphics represented the work of Lyons, while the use of blue kept the kicks inline with previous colette collaborations.

You don’t have to look hard to spot camo kicks. Because of this, KICKS/HI tackled the most topical trend in the savviest of manners by placing “Tiger Camo” on the Chuck Taylor. The results were favorable, as this collab gained fanfare far past the island.

UNDFTD ditched their marquee military aesthetic for an AIDS awareness drop on this fun 2008 collab. In conjunction also with Medicom, this “Wear a Sock Kid” colorway promoted safe sex in a playful manner.

In 2012, Sneakersnstuff answered the call from Converse by pulling from local inspiration. This collaborative Chuck Taylor drew from mittens created by Erika Aittamaa prior to the Industrial Revolution, made as an effort to support her family during the tough times. The Lovikka mitten then became an iconic product in Sweden for generations to follow, expressed on this warm release from SNS.

Who knows about updating classics more than Nigo? Converse enlisted The General for militarily takes on their most memorable model. While Converse’s Japanese Addict line saw many releases, these NIGO designed drops stood out thanks to their zipper styling and co-branding.

Part of the (PRODUCT)RED line, Damien Hirst pulled from his All You Need is Love painting for this 2012 World AIDS Day launch. Red canvas based this collaboration, coming alive with beautiful butterfly detailing.

The Converse Chuck Taylor is a staple, and staple pieces usually wear best in neutral tones and high quality materials. This was executed to a tee on the Reigning Champ x Converse Chuck Taylor Pack, updating the Ox with the menswear brand’s heavyweight fleece and a preppy oxford lining.

While most Comme des Garçons fans were wearing their heart on their sleeve thanks to unofficial endorsement from the likes of Kanye and Drake, Converse got smart and put their “PLAY” styling on the Chuck Taylor. Later expanding to the Pro Leather, this partnership has proved popular even years later.

Maison Martin Margiela
