Collection Summary:

“I don’t stick to one category or brand (even though I am a Nike fanatic). I have a wide assortment of just about everything. I try and stick to shoes with nostalgia and something that is unique in design and materials. It’s easy to collect or buy something that you just plain like. Especially with the amount of releases there are per month, as well as the abilities to customize. If I were going with that philosophy, I’d be in the thousands with my collection, and I never want to get to those kind of numbers, headaches upon headaches!

The time I started getting serious about buying shoes was in high school, in 2003. I just quit the basketball team and had some time on my hands. I paid more attention in that particular time in my life to sneakers, and that was probably the best era within the community. I discovered NikeTalk and, well, ‘nuff said. It was more of an underground scene, it was still new and exciting. Now, it’s a lot different with all of the attention collectors and releases receive due to social media and the Internet. Happens to everything in life, but doesn’t mean it sucks now. I still enjoy collecting and talking sneakers, but I definitely dig for nostalgia. Not only is this still fun for me, but I have met some of my best friends through this hobby. I collect for myself, not for anyone else’s attention/likes/follows.”

Personal Favorite: Nike Air Mag

“The Nike Mag is my favorite amongst my collection. Before the sneaker show hype surrounded this shoe. I fell in love with them while watching the Back to the Future II, which was my favorite out of the trilogy, for obvious reasons. I thought I’d never have the chance to own a pair. Once they were available for auction, my heart broke when I saw the prices they were ending at. I patiently waited and by the last batch of auctions, I scored a pair for a more reasonable price; probably in the lower tier of prices that ended during those 10 days of auction. Patience is key with buying shoes! Keep that in mind!”

Kickstarter: Nike Air More Uptempo

“When I was eight or nine years old, I went to the mall with my brother and mom to buy new shoes for the year. Before we eventually hit the Footlocker in the mall, there was a fountain where you could “make a wish”. I dropped a penny into the water and wished to find the “coolest shoes.” I know it sounds cheesy, but I really did find the coolest shoes that day, and it was the Air More Uptempo. There was nothing else like it on the market. Walking the long way and not cutting through the grass, you had to avoid those orange marks from fertilizer of course, and finally scrapping out the rocks from the soles! This is when all those habits started, the day I fell in love with Nike and started my fascination with sneakers. At $50, it was a pricey shoe for my mother at the time, but I wore that shoe to the ground. It was my only pair for the year. Thanks again mom!”

Most Rare Pair: Converse All Star ‘91/ Nike Air Ship

“I could share a sneaker that is considered “rare” that everyone’s seen a thousand times, or can be purchased with a quick credit card swipe from Flight Club or RIF LA, but I’ll go with something that doesn’t get much attention. The Converse All Star ‘91. Finding a brand new pair in 2014, it’s nearly impossible! Took me 17 years to find a pair! Luckily they are wearable, and they were found in my size, brand new, and included the original box.

Another one I’d like to mention is the Nike Air Ship. No, it’s not the Air Legend (this goes out to all the know-it-alls on IG today). This is the first shoe MJ graced the hardwood on. I again was fortunate enough to find last year in brand new condition, as well as in my size.”

Oldest Pair: Nike Vandal High (1983)

“The oldest pair I own would be the original Nike Vandal High (1983/1984 production). I believe it was one of the first Nike Vandal color ways to release; it’s such an underrated shoe. That strap…damn. I am still hunting for the colorway Kyle Reese rocked in the original Terminator movie.”

Most Frequent Wear: Air Jordan 1 Black/Red

“The Air Jordan 1 in Black/Red. I have so many memories in both the “Banned” 1 and the DMP release. From my college graduation, to the first career job I landed in NYC (it was a casual work environment, luckily). Both the colorway and silhouette goes with just about everything. If I had to give up my collection, I’d be happy with a fleet of the Jordan 1s in black/red (2001 and older only though, please).”
