Sneaker Story:

“My interest for sneakers started around the age of 13. I grew up wearing various Nike Basketball silhouettes, Air Maxes, and of course Air Jordans. I strayed away from shoes when I went off to college because I just didn’t have the extra income. I got back into sneakers about four years ago, and now my love for them is at an all-time high. Over those last four years, with exception to the “Doernbecher” Collection, I have transitioned away from Jordan Brand. I feel that the quality continues to decline, and I would rather spend my money on a shoe that is more durable. The staples in my collection now are predominantly LeBrons 7-10, and Way of Wades.”

Kickstarter: Nike LeBron 7

“I can’t really pinpoint one particular shoe that got me started in my teenage years, but the LeBron 7 silhouette was the shoe that sparked my interest for LeBrons, and I have been collecting them ever since. I never really paid much attention to any of the previous LeBron releases, but once I began collecting the 7s, that all changed. I started hunting for some of the previous year’s releases, mainly the 2s, 3s, and 4s.”

Most Valuable: Nike LeBron 9 “What the LeBron” Sample

“This pair was always a unicorn for me. Seeing that there are only two pairs known to exist in my size, I assumed that they were unattainable. So, when the opportunity came along for me to get these, I knew that I could not pass it up. As many of you know, rare samples command a high price tag, so I had to sell several pairs in order to afford these. Looking back, I’m definitely happy with my decision.”

Hidden Gem: Li-Ning Way of Wade 2 “All-Star” PE

“For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Way of Wade shoes, Li-Ning has released two colorways for the All-Star Game in each of the last two seasons. Unlike LeBron and KD who wore their released All-Star colorways during the game, Dwyane Wade wore a player edition shoe this year during the All-Star Game that did not release to the general public. The colors are extremely bright and vibrant, which I love. Because it is a PE, there are very few pairs in existence which makes it a pretty special pair for me to have.”

Oldest Pair: Nike Zoom LeBron II

“I vividly remember having numerous Jordan models throughout my high school years, but I ran all those pairs into the ground and no longer have them. After I started collecting LeBrons four years ago, I wanted to find some of the older models that I had missed out on while I was away from sneakers. The 2s are my favorite of the early signature LeBron releases, and fortunately, I was able to find all four of the general release colorways DS and in my size. The first LeBron 2 colorway was released in November of 2004, which makes the shoe nearly ten years old.”

Personal Favorite: Nike LeBron X “What the MVP” and Li-Ning Way of Wade “Black Drip”

“LeBrons and Way of Wades are my two favorite brands, so it was only fitting that I chose one of each.

To me, the “What the MVP” Xs are one of the craziest shoes out there. Not only do they withstand multiple wears, but also the colorful, intricate design is right in line with my tastes. I can’t walk 10 feet without someone turning his or her head or making a comment. Like so many of the Way of Wades, the unique detail on the Black Drips drew me in immediately. As an added bonus, these are by far the most comfortable brand of shoes I own. Li-Ning has really separated themselves from the competition in terms of quality and style with their Way of Wade silhouettes.”

Most Meaningful Pair: Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low “Miami Nights”

“Any rare shoe is going to be hard to find, but wearing a size 14 doesn’t make it any easier. Production in my size is always limited in quantity, so as time went on, the chances of me getting a pair were fading fast. Over the course of my search, I had a lot of close calls. In those situations, the pair was either one size too big or too small, the condition wasn’t up to my standards, the price was too high, or the person who owned the shoe was not looking to sell. Finally, after two long years, I found a pair that met all my standards. They were my exact size, in DS condition, with the original box, and the price was fair. All sneaker collectors know the incredible feeling you get when you finally hunt down a pair you have been scouring the earth for, especially when it’s one of your all-time favorite pairs. Every time I look at this shoe, I think back to the struggle it took to get them and it always puts a smile on my face. Although this story is about shoes, it can apply to anything in life. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen!”

Most Rare Pair: Li-Ning Way of Wade 2 “Alternate Christmas” PE

“The shoes that Dwyane Wade wore during the game on Christmas Day were released to the general public, just like how Nike does with LeBron and KD. On top of the general release, two additional player edition Christmas shoes were produced. These particular shoes are unique in the sense that they aren’t the prototypical red/green colorway you often times see with Christmas shoes, and I think that’s part of the reason I like them so much. Wade wore the purple pair in warm-ups of the game on Christmas Day, and the green pair I have not seen him wear. I would estimate probably only a handful of pairs in each colorway were produced, so I am very fortunate I was able to acquire both.”

Most Frequent Wear: Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low “Solar Red”

“The comfort in the Lebron 8 V2 Low makes it easy to reach for on a consistent basis. The “Solar Reds” are unique because the colorway is a very basic Red/Black that matches up well with the black t-shirts and shorts that I so often wear. Although simplistic in design, the vibrancy of the red always draws a lot of attention when I wear them. It’s the perfect combination.”

Latest Pickup: Nike LeBron 11 “2K14”

“This shoe was available for preorder to those who were able to unlock a code in NBA 2K14 for Playstation or Xbox. According to 2K Sports, it took gamers approximately 80 hours to accomplish this feat. When Nike finally unveiled the first look of the shoe, I think many people were disappointed that it wasn’t the “What The Lebron” themed colorway as many were expecting, which caused a significant drop in the resell value. This was good news for me because I don’t play video games and originally thought the price for these would be too high. I’m not exactly sure how this colorway ties into the game, but I think it’s a cool shoe and I am glad I was able to add them to my collection for a fair price.”
