Collection Summary:

“My shoe obsession first started in third grade. I was going shopping with my grandma for hiking shoes for an upcoming field trip, when I saw a pair of shoes that I had never seen before. When I walked into Nordstrom’s there they were, a pair of Nike Air Force 1 Mids Black/Red. My jaw dropped, and I was in awe of this shoe. I always had been a fan of the Bulls, so I wasn’t surprised that my first big shoe would be black and red. I got them and everywhere I went I took those with me. I still have them, and finally found a pair in a size 12 not too long ago. Born and raised in Portland, you are brought up in the game. It’s always a part of you, you just have to find that spark. Nike is the Northwest too, so that helps a lot. I got my first pair of samples as a gift for my 11th birthday, and then it just became an addiction. I have never been into hype and just always got what I wanted, whether it be ultra-rare or not, I just buy what I like. As an 18-year-old, I really had no clue that I would love sneakers so much. My parents used to have their own antique store and were always on the hunt for certain pieces. I guess collecting is just in my blood, and we all know the hunt is the best part.”

Hidden Gem: Jordan IV Cleat “Sunset HS” PE

“The ultimate combination of rare and insane. I had always been wanting to get into cleats, so recently I decided to give it a go. I went on a hunt for some of the rarest cleats, so I could check that off my list of collection pieces. I came across a gem that I never thought I’d ever own: The Jordan IV Cleat “Sunset HS” PE. The rarity of this shoe is insane. They were only given out to players on our local Sunset High School baseball team, located in Beaverton, Oregon, because one of the player’s dads had worked for Jordan Brand, so they decided to make up a cleat for the Varsity baseball team. I had never seen a pair in person, and knew that only a few local people had them, so the search was on. I recently came upon a pair, and the search was over. I got some others, but I’ll let you see those later.”

Oldest Pair: OG Air Jordan 5 “Grape” (1990)

“If you want stories, these probably have the best one yet. One day I was doing my daily scroll through Portland Craigslist. One ad caught my eye, it was titled “OG Grapes For Sale-$80.” When I clicked on the ad, my jaw dropped. There they were, a pair of original grapes. I called the guy and said I’m on my way, I’ll take them for $100. The only thing stopping me was he was located in a suburb of Vancouver, Washington that is located about 45 minutes from Portland. All through the ride I was hoping this deal was real. I knocked on the door and and a man answered, and we headed to the garage where these shoes had been stored. He pulled them out and the first thing I saw was the “Nike Air” logo on the back. His dad purchased them at the Nike Employee store when he used to work at Nike, so he was just getting rid of some of his dad’s stuff. I gave him the $100, and then drove away with a pair of gems in my hands. I couldn’t believe what just happened, and am still in shock to this day.”

Personal Favorite: Nike Air Yeezy “Net”

“I hate hype. I’ve never once camped for shoes, and only a few times got up at 5 a.m. for a pair of shoes that are going for $30 over retail, but the Yeezys are not about hype for me. It took me years to track down the only pair I wanted: The Nike Air Yeezy 1 “Net.” The “Net” colorway has been the only one I’ve wanted, and recently I finally came up on a pair. Every week when I went into the Compound Gallery, Portland’s number one streetwear and shoe store, I would see a pair on display in the glass case. I knew I needed a pair, and I would sell or trade anything to get a pair. The other Yeezy colorways really haven’t done anything for me. The only other colorway that I could see myself getting would be a pair of “Zens”, but other then that you can take the other colorways. I think people got too caught up on “Red Octobers”, it’s an all-red based shoe that is made mostly out of plastic with some buttery suede on the toebox. Hopefully Kanye can do some big things for adidas. Already we’re seeing Stan Smiths sell out and murdered out Adidas Fluxes go for $300, so it looks like the hype has already begun. This summer should be interesting with a release date coming soon, and designs in the process.”

First PE: Nike LeBron IV “NYC Graffiti”

“I’m a city kid, and LeBron has always been my favorite player, so it’s fitting that my first Promo/PE was the “Graffitis”. One day while doing my rounds at our local resale stores, I saw a Nike LeBron IV that I had never seen before, and was in awe. At the time I didn’t really know what they were because I had really never researched PEs or samples, I had always just gotten miscellaneous shoes from my dad and friends to wear, but I had a gut instinct these were something special. The condition was flawless and they were only priced at $29.99. I grabbed them and headed straight home to see what I had gotten. It was one of the most coveted LeBron promos of all time. I started researching and gaining more knowledge about PEs and samples, and my collection just started growing. People started coming to me for stuff, instead of me coming to them. I wanted to be one of the main PE and sample collectors, I started cutting down on retro Jordans and other general stuff, and really focusing just on PEs and samples. People always ask me how I get my stuff and it’s a pretty simple answer: You just have to know the right people and stuff will come your way.”

Most Rare Pair: Nike Shox VC II “SVSM” LeBron PE

“I guess samples and PEs are what I’m known for, so I guess I got some stuff I can talk about. It all started with weird ultra-rare samples because I used to get them from my dad’s friends. Lately I’ve been getting a lot into Jordan PEs and been on the hunt for certain gems. By the time this article comes up, The Finals will be over and LeBron will be walking off either strutting with another trophy or wishing he would have driven the ball more instead of taking those mid-range jumpers, but LeBron will always be my favorite player when it comes to PEs. LeBron is like the MJ of my era, so I can relate to him in that way, remembering his days in Cleveland where it was a one man show, to his final decision on ESPN deciding to take his talents to South Beach. The Nike Shox VC II “SVSM” LeBron PE is probably my most rare LeBron PE and maybe, just maybe, my most rare pair. Let’s just say I got these from a $100 bulk buy box of miscellaneous stuff. I don’t know how many pairs are out there, but I’m pretty sure there aren’t that many. I have always been into older LeBrons over the newer stuff, because of how much the quality has changed. The LeBron III will always be my favorite model because of the quality and mostly all-leather upper, with the II a close second.”

Most Frequent Wear: Air Jordan 1 Hi OG Black/Red

“It’s probably not hard to guess that these would be my most frequent wear pair would be the “Breds.” I have always been a fan of the black/red color block. You can wear these with almost anything. I can’t be one of those dudes who rock their rarest pairs, it’s not me. I got most all the ones that recently have released along with some older stuff, so I’ll always have a pair in the rotation whether it be a pair of KOs or Royals. I’m pretty simple when it comes to style, you’ll usually catch me in some 1s with a Supreme tee. I always like to stay subtle and not flashy, so that’s why it’s hard to beat the Breds.”

Kickstarter: Nike Air Force 1

“This is a tough one because like I said, each shoe has a personal story behind it. I would have to go with Air Forces in general. That’s where my obsession all started, from the first time walking into Nordstrom and seeing the black/red pair, it just started the shoe craze. There is something about the classic design and color blocks they use. I’ll always remember walking into the Flight Club store in NYC and seeing a pair of LeBbron Chamber Of Fear “Hater Denver” Forces and wanting them so bad. Price wasn’t bad at $125, so I decided I had to grab them. The guys working there looked at me like I was stupid for buying a pair of used Forces. They told me Forces are duds and that the market is never going to be what it used to be. But I still got them because I liked them, and knew that hype didn’t matter to me. Over the years, I’ve been able to snag some pretty rare forces such as the AKAs, Pro Bowls and other various samples and promos. I think one of the main problems with Forces is they have produced a million colorways over the years. Another reason why Forces have such an impact on me was because I went to school with Rasheed Wallace’s son. I’ll always remember Sheed rolling up in his pimped-out Hummer right onto the playground without knowing it. His crib was insane, those summer days just chilling at his house hooping in his backyard. I got some of his personal PEs and jerseys, so that was another reason why Forces have been prevalent throughout my collection.”

Most Valuable: Nike LeBron II Collection

“I really don’t base my collection on value and price, but I would have to say these three definitely would be considered my most valuable trio. These don’t have a price to me, and I would never get rid of them. I got these three in a package deal and man, was I excited. I had always been a fan of the LeBron Dunkman IIs, and had been wanting a pair forever. Finally I came across a pair, and a few others came along with them. The “Gum Bottoms” IIs are an all-time favorite for me because of the gold laser etching and premium leather. The “Woodgrains” are insane in person, the leather is probably some of the nicest leather I ever seen on any Nike. I can see how these were made for off-court events for him and his close friends and family.”

Latest Pickup: Nike LeBron 8 Low “Solar” Promo

“I’ve been on the hunt for these forever, and now I finally came across a pair. I like small different details when it comes to samples and promos, and these definitely fit in that category. The Nike LeBron 8 Low “Solar” Promo with solar bottom and Air bag, these shoes are insane. Another small detail that is different is the color of the laces, these only came with official white laces with solar tips, and it’s the only pair I’ve seen with that detail. It’s all about the little details for me, and I always like to have the rarest of the rare when it comes to that factor. I don’t know how many of these are out there but I know it’s not many.”

Most Worn Pair: Nike Kobe V “Chaos”

“You asked for it, my most worn pair. These are the definition of “beaters”, the Nike Kobe V “Chaos” is my lawn shoe and it puts in work. Originally purchased from my local Foot Locker, and was my go-to hooping shoes for two years. I decided to finally retire them to the garage as my lawn mowing shoes. These get a weekly workout, helping my dad out on our lawn and get a bit more worn and run down, but that only shows the quality of Nike shoes and how these bad boys are still going. Don’t worry, I still have my promo pair tucked away in Kobe’s size in my vault.”
