Custom sneakers were spotted on court this season more often than any other year we’ve been covering Kicks On Court. From Tony Wroten’s debut of his Mache-designed Air Jordan 12 to Ray Allen sporting an Air Jordan XX8 SE custom during the NBA Finals, we take a look at the 2013-2014 NBA and NCAA season in review from a custom standpoint.

King James gave us the first custom sneaker/NBA player encounter this season by bringing out a Nike LeBron X Elite “Championship” custom designed by San Antonio native and Spurs fan Jake Danklefs. Just how did Danklefs get the honor of creating a custom shoe for LeBron? Danklefs has a detailed story.

UNLV Running Rebel Kevin Olekaibe made headlines and garnered an abundance of interest after wearing a light-up Air Jordan 3 custom midway through the college basketball season. This is customizing on a whole new level.

We expect Nick Young to break out a wide variety of sneakers each year, but this season was the first time he dove into the custom craze. He wore this Lakers-inspired Air Jordan 5 in a road game against the Milwaukee Bucks midway through the season. Yet, this wasn’t his most heralded custom wear of the season. Do you remember Christmas Day?

Portland Trail Blazers center Robin Lopez doesn’t have to contact anyone to create a pair of custom sneakers for him to wear on court. The twin creates his own. Earlier this season, he discussed with us how he adds hand-drawn custom artwork to his sneakers before each game. He also has rather unique names for them, such as “Blaze of Glory,” “Totem,” and “Space Paranoid.”

Long Beach State’s Tyler Lamb, a California native, took to the court in one of the most noticeable custom sneakers this season. Palm trees paraded on his custom Air Jordan 9, in addition to the school’s initials, and the white on the Air Jordan 9 White/Black-Red was swapped out for Long Beach State yellow.

Tony Wroten was credited for bringing out three different Air Jordan custom sneakers this season. His “76ers” Air Jordan 10 custom was worn in honor of Allen Iverson’s jersey retirement in Philadelphia on the same night.

Within the first two months of the season, Wroten sported two custom sneakers, including this Air Jordan 4 designed by Mache. This particular pair became a fan favorite out of his three 1-of-1s.

Miami Heat guard Ray Allen is credited with wearing the most recent custom spotted on court this season. This design, created by @SolesBySir, is the second 1-of-1 we spotted on an up-to-date, performance sneaker rather than a retro.

Player exclusives from the major brands are seen in bulk on Christmas Day, but Nick Young took exclusive to another level by wearing a custom Air Jordan 11 Low on the 25th of December. He swapped out the columbia blue for purple on these 1-of-1s.

Wroten’s custom 12s marked the beginning of the custom craze on court this season. While King James brought out the aforementioned “Championship” LeBron X custom during Media Day, it was Tony Wroten who struck first on the hardwood. On Philly’s opening night against James and the Heat, he wore this Mache-designed Air Jordan 12 to begin the season.

Another Opening Night wear, Lakers forward Wes Johnson took to the court in this python and ostrich-textured adidas Crazy 8 designed by JBF Customs. However, these didn’t make it to the actual game, as he shelved them after his shootaround session.

We never expected Austin Rivers to join in on the fun. Right before All-Star Weekend, we spotted Rivers in the first-ever custom design on an up-to-date, performance-ready shoe. He wore a Kickasso-designed adidas Crazy Light 3 and later wore an adidas D Rose 4 designed by the same artist.

Probably the simplest custom sneaker on the list, Ohio State’s Lenzelle Smith incorporated a few grey hints on the White/Varsity Red Air Jordan 10. Specifically, grey accents are seen in the form of the laces and a strip along the lateral section of the shoe.

Custom sneakers were spotted on court this season more often than any other year we’ve been covering Kicks On Court.
