Tony Wroten and Manu Ginobili’s Sneaker Malfunctions

We usually witness a shoe blowout once every 2-3 years, but this season, two southpaws fell victim to sneaker malfunctions within two weeks of each other. Kevin Martin Boldly Wears Jordan Future, A Non-Basketball Shoe

Though it’s equipped with an Air Jordan 11 outsole – a shoe many would place among the cream of the crop in regards to performance basketball shoes – the newly-developed Jordan Future is by no means a performance-ready basketball shoe. Yet, that didn’t stop Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin from wearing them on court in a game against his former team, the Sacramento Kings, this season. In a time where anything, like Trainers, Yeezys, and high-fashion sneakers are accepted on court, are you a fan of seeing the Future on court?

LeBron James Prefers Soldier VII Over LeBron 11

LeBron James not consistently wearing his latest signature, the Nike LeBron 11, was undoubtedly the biggest elephant in the room this season. The $200 sneaker was worn by players, such as DeMarcus Cousins, Manu Ginobili and P.J. Tucker more so than LeBron James himself, who wore his 11th signature shoe few and far between. Instead, the 4-time MVP opted to wear the latest from his secondary signature line, the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier VII, faithfully. Besides a quote from James stating that Nike was in the process of redefining the 11s midway through the season, we never heard much more as to why he decided to wear the Soldier VII.

JR Smith Unties Opponents’ Shoelaces

At the beginning of January, J.R. Smith was hit with a $50,000 fine by the NBA for untying opponents’ shoelaces. Smith never gave a reason as to why he went on an untying tear midway through the season, but it was definitely one of the memorable moments of the Knicks’ season, which probably doesn’t say much.

Kyle Lowry Goes On Unexpected Air Jordan Tear

Kyle Lowry, a longtime PEAK brand member, oddly went on an Air Jordan rampage fresh out of All-Star Weekend. For two weeks straight, the Raptors point guard laced up a number of beloved sneakers, such as the Air Jordan 9, the Air Jordan 1 and the Air Jordan 10 before returning to a number of PEAK player exclusives throughout the rest of the regular season and playoffs. Weird.

Robin Lopez Customizes His Own Shoes

We knew custom sneakers would be a huge on-court trend this season, but we never imagined hand-drawn, self-designed sneakers would ever make it to the hardwood. Enter Portland Trail Blazers center Robin Lopez. The twin sported multiple adidas models that featured hand-drawn custom art created by him. LeBron James Laces Up 1-of-1s Off Court

While players like Norris Cole, Derrick Williams, Eric Bledsoe and Nick Young were busy wearing LeBron’s previous models on court, King James shockingly laced up two 1-of-1s of the Nike Zoom LeBron II and the Nike Zoom LeBron III. The latter featured a black and white color scheme with glow-in-the-dark laces, while the formers owns a leopard and zebra print finish.

Isaiah Thomas Surprisingly Sports Low-Top Rebook Kamikaze II PE

Retro-wise, Jordans rule the NBA courts each year. However, Reebok made a big splash by supplying their brand member Isaiah Thomas with new constructions of their most famed retro models. Out of nowhere, Thomas took to the court in a few low-top versions of the Reebok Kamikaze II. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of new colorways on classic models from most brands, but a whole new construction of a ’90s model is a first.

Nick Young Sports Supreme x Nike Foamposite Days After Release

The mass hysteria that surrounds Nick Young’s on-court footwear seems to broaden with each passing year. We love the fact that he has the audacity to wear some of the most highly-anticipated and hyped sneakers on court – that most people wouldn’t dare play basketball in – as if to say, ‘they’re just shoes.’ His wear of the Supreme x Nike Air Foamposite One relayed that exact message, as he wore them just four days after the limited release of this shoe.
