Sneaker Story:

“From the childhood fights with my brother over who got to look through the new Eastbay magazine first, to missing the first minute of every basketball game because I was looking to see what everyone had on their feet, I’ve always had a high interest in sneakers. Once I started making my own money, and didn’t have a $100 shoe limit, I was able to get some of the shoes I wanted. Nike Basketball is definitely what got me into sneakers, but the deeper in the game and older I got, the more respect and interest I had in other brands and styles.

Today, there are so many different shoe styles and brands in which I enjoy that it makes it very difficult to choose which pair to purchase, especially while trying to pay for college at the same time. So, I buy what I like, never pay resell prices, and do the best I can to diversify my collection. There are a lot of great Jordan and Nike releases that I miss out on, but at the end of the day, I enjoy having a wide variety of styles and brands to choose from.

It’s really more than just something to put on my feet that I enjoy, it’s the whole culture and lifestyle. I have met so many people and know good people all over the country because of sneakers. #SneakLife”

Most Rare Pair: Ronnie Fieg x Filling Pieces Quilted Mid

“200 pairs made of each color, “fully handmade in Portugal.” I was blessed with the opportunity to be featured in the Kith Coat of Arms Lookbook earlier this year. Through that I met a lot of good people that work for Kith and saw the time and care they put into their craft and product. I am now a full supporter of Kith, and these filling pieces are crazy.”

Collection Starter: Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” (2009)

“I grew up on the movie Space Jam (still a top 5 movie of all time). Christmas 1996 was the best Christmas ever, looking back at the old pictures I don’t think my brother or I had one present that wasn’t related to Space Jam. Then the “Space Jam” 11’s were retroed while I was in high school. I gathered up enough money, then went to camp and sprinted through the mall. I had a respectable little collection before that, but the whole experience and feeling of buying such a great and meaningful shoe got me hooked.”

Oldest Pair: Nike Air Command Force (1991)

“I love all different types of sneakers, but for me, nothing beats the bulky high-top style of the early/mid 1990s. The first time I remember ever seeing Command Forces was on the feet of Billy Hoyle, and I immediately had to have them. These are my favorite Nike’s of all time, so when I saw them for a reasonable price on eBay last summer, I had to buy them. One of my good friends still makes fun of me for buying a pair of unwearable shoes, but they were definitely worth it and I have them on display in my room. I can’t wait for the Retro’s later this year!”

Personal Favorite: Air Jordan 11 “Concord”

“Simple, timeless, and versatile. Just a perfectly built sneaker, created way before its time. Great work Tinker. You can dress them up, you can dress them down. These stand out wherever you wear them, they even get the attention of people who aren’t into sneakers; which says a lot about any sneaker, especially a black and white one. My parents bought my brother and I the OG’s in ’96 (I was 4), and I have been calling them my favorites ever since.”

Most Frequent Wear: Nike Zoom Structure + 17 (Oregon Project) and Nike Flyknit Racer

“I started running cross country in 7th grade, and track my junior year of HS. I am about to go into my final year of collegiate cross country and track at the University of Southern Indiana. I am currently coming back from injury, but when I am healthy I run an average of 85 miles a week, so my structures get put to good use pretty much everyday. I try to switch trainers every 500-600 miles, but have stuck with this Nike model since the + 13s a few years ago. I use the Flyknit Racers for my workouts (track work, tempo’s, etc.) and I couldn’t be happier with them. Perfect fit, light, durable. I am definitely a believer in the Flyknit technology.”
