Last year around this time, Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan was considered one of the top nominees to win the 2013 Kicks On Court Champion award. On a team full of sneaker enthusiasts, DeRozan was the ringleader. A year later, Toronto Raptors guard Terrence Ross has stepped into the forefront of the Raptors’ Kicks On Court charge, and he has impressed spectators with his play and on-court footwear. The world has started to pay attention.

“T. Ross has been really coming with it this year,” says Phoenix Suns forward P.J. Tucker. “It’s easy for him and DeMar Derozan, though, because Toronto’s color scheme matches pretty much everything.”

Whether it’s easy or not, Ross took complete advantage of the Raptors’ red and black. He wore 14 different Air Jordan retros, most of which MJ wore during his reign. Sneaker favorites, such as the Air Jordan 13 Black/Red, the “Fire Red” Air Jordan 5 and the Air Jordan 3 ’88 Retro, dominate his Kicks On Court resume this season. Yet, he also made headlines by lacing up recently-released, heralded kicks throughout the season. He earned huge Sneaker Debut points for wearing the Air Jordan 10 “Doernbecher” during his dunk of the year, and he took part in the 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest while rocking the “Spider-Man” Foamposite Pro. Though retros were seen in abundance, Ross’ favorites come from a website that is often visited by many NBA players.

“I love customizing my own shoes,” says Ross. “I’m always on NIKEiD checking out what I can create next.”

A number of Ross’ creations made their way to the court as well. He kicked off the season by unleashing four NIKEiD Kobe 8s during the first month of the NBA season. Does his varied on-court resume warrant the title this year? Check out his case below.

Top NIKEiD/PE Wears: Ross began the season right where his teammate, and fifth place Kicks On Court Champion nominee of last year, DeMar DeRozan, ended last season. If you recall, DeRozan drove home the point that he was an aficionado of the Kobe 8 by wearing the shoe in many different colorways for the last 20 games of the 2012-2013 NBA season. Ross kicked off the season with a number of Kobes, including three Kobe 8 iDs, one of which used the ‘Pit Viper’ motif.

Top Sneaker Debut Wears: Ross made his presence felt the most in the Sneaker Debut department. He’s responsible for two of the most talked-about debuts, specifically the “Doernbecher” Air Jordan 10 during the second half of the NBA season and the “Spider-Man” Foamposite Pro in New Orleans during the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. He was also one of two players to wear Michael Jordan’s first signature shoe on court this year in his debut of the “Barons” Air Jordan 1.

Top Element of Surprise Wears: Wearing the ’88 retro Air Jordan 3 isn’t revolutionary, per se, but Ross’ boldness in wearing them on court is pretty big. We’ve seen multiple players wearing the regular Air Jordan 3 White/Cement on court, but the Retro ’88 rendition is a different story. Ross also gets points for bringing the red outsole-laced “Fire Red” Air Jordan to the court, while most others lace up the White/Fire Red-Black pair instead.

Top Closet Appeal Wears: Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen a couple of Air Jordan XX sightings here and there. Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams and Quincy Miller all laced up the Countdown Pack version of the Air Jordan XX throughout the past couple of years, and Ray Allen shocked everyone by wearing a red and green Air Jordan XX PE on Christmas Day in 2012. However, we haven’t seen it in its original form in quite some time. Ross took to the court in the “Stealth” Air Jordan XX during the second half of the season, which is huge.

We witnessed a Jordan-dominant resume from Ross this season; however, he delved into a number of other famed signature lines at least one time. As mentioned before. he sparingly wore Kobes throughout the season and sported other signatures from the likes of LeBron James, Penny Hardaway and Gary Payton. Overall, he had one of the most varied lineups of any Kicks On Court Champion nominee.

State your case as to why Toronto Raptors guard Terrence Ross should win the 2014 Kicks On Court Champion award in the comment section below.

Last year around this time, Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan was considered one of the top nominees to win the 2013 Kicks On Court Champion award.
