Who’s the best rebounder to ever play the game? Dennis Rodman, of course. Affectionately known as The Worm, The Hall of Famer’s credentials are as decorated as his wardrobe choices, with seven rebound titles, seven 1st Team All-NBA Defensive selections, five Championship rings and two Defensive Player of the Year Awards to his name. Over the course of his 14-year NBA career, Rodman was defined as the chairman of the boards, and will be remembered as perhaps the greatest to ever rebound. What about his shoes, though? While he mixed it up with heels on a few occasions off court, he was strictly business on the court when it came to kicks. On Rodman’s 53rd birthday, we take a look back at the heat Rodman rocked from Nike, Reebok, and Converse over the course of his career.

Rodman’s blue collar play was a perfect fit for the Motor City. In his early days as a “Bad Boy,” he would rock the Air Revolution. Oddly enough, it was after Detroit that he would be publicly known as one, and yes, the revolution would be televised.

Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Revolution

While Dennis Rodman would get most of his glory and attention on and off the court during his Bulls and Spurs days, it was in Detroit where he racked up his first two rings and two All-Star Game selections. Reebok laced him in Pumps during part of that stretch.

Dennis Rodman in the Reebok The Pump 91

It was in San Antonio that the Dennis Rodman we remember truly started to hit the big time. Nike outfitted him in the Air Darwin, which many now consider a signature of his. The Worm was born.

Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Darwin
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Darwin
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Darwin

Because of Rodman’s athletic build and high-paced style of play, he fit right in wearing guard shoes. He rocked two different installments from the Nike Air Maestro series during his time in San Antonio and Chicago.

Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Maestro
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Maestro ’96

The winged Nike with an Air Penny look was favored by both Rodman and Scottie Pippen during the Bulls’ famed 72-10 season. Unlike Kobe, he left the Air Worm Ndestrukt in the locker room in favor of the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt. The sneaker is a cult classic due to its Rodman endorsement, Air Jordan 11 style mudguard and medial side lacing system.

Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis Rodman in the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt

No relation to the home of Homer, the All-Star Springfield was one of Rodman’s early models with the Cons. The shoe featured simple style and saw the history of the brand with the return of the Chuck Taylor logo and the implementation of REACT Juice.

Dennis Rodman in the Converse All-Star Springfield
Dennis Rodman in the Converse All-Star Springfield

Hey now, you’re an All-Star. While Rodman wasn’t getting voted into the game by the fans or the coaches, he was becoming the people’s champ of the MTV-era youth. Converse jumped on him by inking an endorsement deal and giving him a string of signature shoes. The AS Rodman was full of personality, sporting a logo that resembled one of Rodman’s many tattoos.

Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS Rodman
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS Rodman
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS Rodman
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS Rodman

This shoe’s split-color design made it a fan favorite. The AS 91 got props for a Bulls colorway and durable construction. It proved easy to wear and was thus embraced by both Rodman regulars and consumers outside of his fan base.

Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS 91
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS 91
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS 91
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS 91

While the nickname “D-Rod” would never catch on, the sneaker would become a staple during the latter days of Rodman’s career. The AS D-Rod proved to be his last signature and was worn in team makeups for the likes of the Bulls, Lakers and Mavericks.

Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Dennis Rodman in the Converse AS D-Rod
Nike Air Revolution

(photo via Mis Zapas)
