Twenty years ago, Michael Jordan traded in his basketball for a glove and a baseball bat to play with the Chicago White Sox’s minor league affiliate. When MJ opted for the baseball field, so did the production of some of his footwear. Nike/Jordan Brand began suiting up many of the Air Jordan models with cleats. In 1999, a few months after Jordan’s second retirement, Jordan Brand endorsed Derek Jeter, their first athlete in Major League Baseball. Since signing Jeter, Jordan Brand’s influence in baseball has spread across the League, giving fans a chance to see a continual string of PEs on the baseball diamond. Earlier this year, Jeter announced that the 2014 season will be his last time donning the Yankees’ pinstripes. To honor Jeter’s legendary career and the 20-year anniversary of MJ’s switch from shooting hoops to swinging a bat, we present a look back at some of the best, and most iconic, Air Jordans made for the baseball diamond.

One of the most popular shoes of all time, the Air Jordan 1 received the cleat treatment for MLB pitcher Jeremy Guthrie.

This cleat-laden Air Jordan 3 was made for Andruw Jones, one of the few Jordan Brand athletes in the MLB.

CC Sabathia and Andruw Jones broke out pairs of Air Jordan 4 cleats while playing during the 2012 season.

Derek Jeter has been the face of the New York Yankees and Jordan Brand baseball for a very long time. Over the years, Jeter has amassed a collection of PEs that includes these Air Jordan 6s from back in 2000.

Derek Jeter is a living legend in every sense, standing as the first signature athlete for Jordan Brand baseball and the only player to rock the Air Jordan 7 on the baseball field.

Back in ’94 when His Airness made the switch to America’s pastime, so did his then-current silhouette, the Air Jordan 9.

The Air Jordan 10 was the only silhouette to see the hardwood and the baseball diamond. During his time with the Birmingham Barons, MJ rocked a pair of Air Jordan 10 cleats a few times before returning to the basketball court.

Arguably the most iconic shoe of all time, the Air Jordan 11 received the cleat treatment in some of its most popular colorways, along with several PE looks for All-Star athletes, such as Deion Sanders, Jimmy Rollins and many more.

Air Jordan 1

Air Jordan 1 Jeremy Guthrie PE
