Flyknit. In honor of the latest edition as well as the upcoming release of the Nike Kobe 9, we’ve decided to chronicle the many iterations of the Nike Flyknit franchise. Click through the pages below to see the path of the Swoosh’s woven invention so far, and let us know your favorite Flyknit sneaker in the comments.

Nike Flyknit Racer

Weighing in at a mere 5.6 ounces, the Nike Flyknit Racer introduced the threaded technology to the world. Designed for running but championed off the track as well, this progressive racer saw placement in Nike’s first Flyknit add. A host of colorways released, and this model still remains in Nike’s retail rotation today.

Nike Flyknit Trainer+

Sturdier than the Racer, the Nike Flyknit Trainer+ was built for longer runs. A thicker midsole makes for padded strides, with the sneaker coming in at a still featherweight 8.4 ounces. Contrasting colors show support on the mid-foot, while a Kanye co-sign saw this model catch wildfire in the fashion realm.

Nike HTM Flyknit Collection

Hiroshi, Tinker and Mark have teamed up for creative takes on many favorites from the Flyknit franchise. HTM variations of Racers, Trainers, Chukkas and Frees have been embraced by fans of progressive footwear but have also proven very hard to get.

Nike Flyknit Performance Track Spike

Unveiled just in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Nike Flyknit Performance Track Spike was built for speed. The ultra-light 3.9 ounce spike was designed for distance runners, sitting the sock-like structure over a Pebax plate.

Nike Lunar Flyknit Chukka

Putting a premium on style and comfort, the Nike Lunar Flyknit Chukka united two of Nike’s top techs on a chukka boot silo. Lunarlon cushioning provided an ideal bed for the foot, while Flyknit thread wrapped around the ankle for the first time.

Nike Flyknit Lunar1+

Following in the footsteps of the Flyknit Chukka, the Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ saw space age support merge with the threaded tech. Designed for running, this model places a Lunarlon sole beneath a Flyknit upper. Aesthetically, the model was less edgy than the first Flyknits. From a performance standpoint, they were regarded as much more comfortable.

Nike Free Flyknit

The original intentions of Flyknit thread to fit like a sock were realized on the Nike Free Flyknit. A bootie upper saw the waviest Flyknit yet, placed atop a Nike Free sole for the first time.

Nike Free Hyperfeel

Part of Nike’s Nature Amplified campaign, the Nike Free Hyperfeel saw Flyknit’s most minimal makeup yet. A one piece upper cut down on waste by 90%, while drop in cushioning made for maximum sensation when wearing. This model was also adapted for Trail wear.

Nike Flyknit Air Max

Best of both worlds? Two of Nike’s most favorited franchises collaborated for the first time on the Nike Flyknit Air Max. Multi-color upper styling matched that of multi-color cushioning on this model, designed to provide the stride of an Air Max with the fit of a Flyknit.

Nike Flyknit Lunar2

The Nike Flyknit Lunar2 sees the first sequel starring Flyknit. Lunarlon cushioning is back by popular demand, while Flyknit construction aids the cushioning for a runner that’s both light and strong.

Nike Kobe 9

The Nike Kobe 9 will see the debut of Flyknit on the basketball court. As Kobe Bryant and Eric Avar continue to push the envelope, the Flyknit upper is said to be strong enough for the multi-directional movements associated with hoops.
