After much discussion, deliberation and debate, the Snkrs Day staff presents to you the 2013 version of the #NK50. Many models released this year, with a must-get makeup dropping almost weekly. So, with 2013 coming to a close, what were our picks for the top 50 sneaker releases of the year? Read on to find out.

50. Air Jordan 4 “Toro Bravo”

Thanks to a few unreleased artist exclusives, 2013 became the year of the red sneaker. The most liked and accessible across the board was the Air Jordan 4 “Toro Bravo.” Red suede styling first seen on the Air Jordan 5 and Air Jordan XX1 proved a hit on the very wearable AJ4 silo.

49. Garbstore x Reebok OG Pump Fury

Image via Sneaker Politics

Awesomely inside out, Garbstore was livin’ la vida loca by flipping the script on many memorable models from Reebok Classics. Of all their releases this year, the Reebok OG Pump Fury is featured as our favorite take.

48. CNCPTS x New Balance 998 “Mint”

photo via Hypebeast

Releases like the Concepts x New Balance 998 “Mint” made retro running arguably the most sought after sector of sneakers in 2013. Fresh, classy and premium, this “Mint” makeup was money.

47. Teyana Taylor x adidas Originals Harlem GLC

All-Star Weekend was full of major releases, but perhaps the biggest surprise was the Teyana Taylor x adidas Originals Harlem GLC. Teyana’s take on the GLC silo turned heads and turned into the fastest selling Three Stripes sneaker up to that time. Girls loved them, guys wanted them, but few could get them.

46. Nike Roshe Run FB Black/Pink Flash-Mint Green

Sure, these are soccer inspired, but drop the phrase “Yeezy Roshe Runs” and everyone knows the shoe you’re talking about. The coincidental combo of the least expensive and most expensive models in the Sportswear series proved a big win on the Nike Roshe Run FB. The slow paced silo saw its first chase, with sneakerheads all over looking to score this shoe.

45. Nike Air Force 1 Low “Arctic Green”

No hype? No problem. The Nike Air Force 1 Low “Arctic Green” checks in as the sleeper pick of 2013. While the AF1 no longer resides at the top of the totem pole, this pair proved that cool suede and a gum bottom still pop on the old favorite. We’re still waiting on the “Salmon” offering.

44. Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte V “Volcano”

photo via Ronnie Fieg

Digging into the retro running vault, the Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte V “Volcano” saw the collaborative relaunch of the GLV. Hot hues both deep and dark took well to premium materials and matching apparel on this limited launch. Following the success of the “Volcano” colorway, it’s safe to say the Gel Lyte V will blow up in a major way next year.

43. Nike KD VI “D.C. Preheat”

Before “Gamma Blue” graced any and every holiday release, it made a quiet cameo on the Nike KD VI “D.C. Preheat.” This kickoff colorway introduced the precision timing style in a bold, colorful manner. While similar styling has been seen on inline or iD KD VI releases that followed, the details drive this top rated rendition.

42. Supreme x Vans Chukka “Floral”

Album art inspiration put the Supreme x Vans Chukka “Floral” in our #NK50 rotation. This “Power, Corruption & Lies” colorway played well on the Sk8-Hi and Era silos, but steals a spot in Chukka form. Hats off to Supreme on a strong 2013 that saw many cool and creative collaborations.

41. Nike Kobe 8 “What the Kobe”

Compared to its contemporaries and its predecessors, the Nike Kobe 8 was rather contained in regard to distribution and number of releases. Nevertheless, the Kobe 8 was well regarded as a performance juggernaut and well liked in many makeups. It all culminated in fitting fashion on the easy to admire, but hard to get ,”What the Kobe” colorway.

40. Nike Zoom Flight 98 The Glove Black/White-Red

After a 15-year wait, fans of Gary Payton and Eric Avar got a gift in the retro release of the Nike Air Zoom Flight 98 The Glove. The Black/White-Red colorway proved the most nostalgic, throwing it back to GP’s Seattle showmanship. New color stories and an awesome Sole Collector collaboration proved this model’s worth time and time again.

39. The Good Will Out x New Balance 577 “Autobahn”

NB collabs didn’t slow down in 2013, as seen on the The Good Will Out x New Balance 577 “Autobahn” Pack. New Balanced avoided a narrow path all year by working with an array of shops across the country for an assortment of awesome releases. This drop proved no different, racing off the shelves in no time.

38. Nike Air Force Max 2013 “Area 72”

Rather than try to outdo the “Galaxy” Foamposites, the 2013 All-Star offerings from Nike took us to Area 72. Relying on silos new and classic, the Nike Air Force Max 2013 combined both and managed to do the theme the most justice. Fashionable and futuristic, this CB update still goes hard in the paint.

37. Bodega x New Balance 577 “HYPRCAT”

To say 2013 was a strong year for New Balance may be an understatement. The Bodega x New Balance 577 “HYPRCAT” saw yet another well done collab. Premium materials played well with neutral base tones and pop accents on the 577 silo.

36. WTAPS x Vans Vault OG Sk8-Hi LS “Olive Drab”

Vans Vault celebrated a decade of decadence by dropping an array of awesome inline and collaborative kicks. The latter received the most shine, with the WTAPS collection among the most liked. Of all the WTAPS takes, the “Olive Drab” Sk8-His serve as the favorite.

35. Air Jordan 12 “Gamma Blue”

“Gamma Blue” graced a few other offerings from Jordan Brand this holiday season, but the Air Jordan 12 wore it the best. PE level color blocking saw the hue looking the healthiest on the AJ 12. Those that envied the Carmelo colorways from his Denver days got the next best thing on this recent release.

34. Nike LeBron X “Championship” Pack

Back to back title trophies made for back to back packs, as seen on this celebratory set of LeBron Xs. Both the Elite mids and Air Max Lows took on arguably their strongest colorways in this double drop.

33. Air Jordan 1 Black/Metallic Gold

Unexpected but no less awesome, the Air Jordan 1 Black/Metallic Gold was a surprise hit from a strong year for the OG silo. Patent leather placement and a crisp colorway were reminiscent of retro and original releases, offering a flashy take on the fundamental favorite.

32. Maison Martin Margiela x Converse Chuck Taylor

Perhaps the most creative collaboration of 2013, the Maison Martin Margiela x Converse Chuck Taylor dipped the iconic basketball silo in a fresh coat of paint. Better with age, the paint cracks with each wear to reveal the canvas colorway that lies beneath.

31. Disney x Vans Vault OG Sk8-Hi “Donald Duck”

photo via Wish Atl

Donald Duck all over a pair of Vans? That’s quacktastic. The Disney x Vans Vault Collection featured an assortment of awesome cartoon colorways. Of them all, the blue Sk8-Hi offering ranks as our favorite.

30. Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski “Digi Floral”

Nike SB hit it out of the park when they designed the Stefan Janoski signature. Well liked by just about all, the silo has delivered season after season in colorway after colorway. 2013 was no different, with the “Digi Floral” trifecta finding its way onto our list.

29. CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP

photo via Freshness Mag

2013 saw many modern updates to the storied Air Max series. The CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP ranks among the most well regarded, appearing sleek and creative. Futuristic servings from the Air Max line are definitely here to stay.

28. Saint Alfred x New Balance 1500

After delivering one of the year’s best Gel Lyte IIIs, Chicago’s Saint Alfred followed it up with a strong take on the New Balance 1500. Rich and red, this rendition ranks high among the many New Balance collabs.

27. Nike Air Tech Challenge II “Wimbledon”

photo via Sole Collector

Andre Agassi’s return to Nike proved one of the biggest sneaker stories of 2013. While most anticipated the signature product to roll out in 2014, we got an early preview with two tennis takes on the Tech Challenge II. While the “U.S. Open” colorway wooed fans in the US, we’re still after this “Wimbledon” release.

26. Air Jordan 5 “Grape”

The Air Jordan 5 “Grape” may be the reason we love lifestyle LeBrons and Kobes so much. Remaining OG while deviating from the standard Chicago palette, the “Grape” 5s were a welcome re-retro after the limited launch in 2006. Deeply rooted in nostalgia and pop culture, this pair still stands out in a strong year for JB retros.

25. Nike WMNS Air Max 1 “Liquid Gold”

We’ve seen a lot from the AM1 over the years, but the Nike WMNS Air Max 1 “Liquid Gold” took the iconic runner to a whole new level. This wearable art piece saw the beloved model dipped in gold for a statuesque effect.

24. BAPE x UNDFTD x adidas ZX 5000

photo via Ronnie Fieg

In 2013, we found out that when the streetwear titans of the East and West collide that everyone wins. The BAPE x UNDFTD x adidas ZX 5000 proved the standout of the oft-delayed but always anticipated collection, carrying both camo styling and patriotic branding in a manner that was bold but not busy.

23. size? x Nike Air Max 93

If you didn’t know what size? was about in 2012, then you definitely found out in 2013. The preferred overseas outfitter for retro runners put out more than a few collabs and shop-only exclusives that had US buyers memorizing the exchange rate. While all were strong, this teal take on the Air Max 93 proves the most striking.

22. Reebok Shaqnosis

Can you dig it? We certainly can. Reebok welcomed Shaquille O’Neal back with open arms in 2013. The Shaq Attaq returned to the delight of many, as did the always beloved Reebok Shaqnosis in the OG Black/White colroway.

21. Nike LeBron 11 “King’s Pride”

Launching the same weekend as the Glove retro and “Steel” 10s, the Nike LeBron 11 “King’s Pride” may not have flown off shelves, but they made their mark. The combination of top tier technology with a mature colorway took this shoe to new heights. Will the LeBron 11 outperform the LeBron X? We’ll have to wait and see.

20. Sneaker Freaker x PUMA Blaze of Glory “Sharkbait”

How do you follow up a double-drop bring back? If you’re Sneaker Freaker, you do it with the “Sharbait” x PUMA Blaze of Glory. Deriving from the same silo and styling as the previous pack, this teal take served as the cherry on top of a successful year of SF collabs.

19. Mastermind x adidas Originals Superstar

Image via Kith

Premium and hard to get, the mastermind JAPAN x adidas Originals Superstar updated the basketball classic in a raw, fashion-focused take. While the whole pack performed well, the Superstars get the call on our list.

18. atmos x Nike Air Max 90 Premium “Camo”

Photo via Bodega

Updating the “Infrared” Air Max 90 is literally playing with fire, but atmos handled the heat in cool fashion with this “Camo” colorway. Once again, atmos proved to be vets in the collab game, dropping dope retro runners all year long.

17. adidas Springblade

Going against the grain, adidas dropped the most radical runner of the year with the unveiling of the Springblade. Progressive and aggressive, the modified midsole swapped standard foam cushioning in favor of bouncy blades for joggers of all ages.

16. Nike LeBron X EXT “Denim”

Simply put, it doesn’t get much better than this. Premium materials, performance technology and a downright nasty colorway all culminated in the Nike LeBron X EXT “Denim.” This quickstrike drop was hard to cop, but well worth the money.

15. Air Jordan 1 Black/Red

The calendar may read 2013, but this year we were all preoccupied with 1985. Following the success of the “Banned” quickstrike and KO colorways, the Air Jordan 1 had a banner year from start to finish. This OG Black/Red release capped off a strong season from the series-starting silo.

14. Nike Air Foamposite One “Fighter Jet”

Foam frenzy reached a fever pitch in 2012, but 2013 proved the synthetic silo still had some juice. A Penny-inspired “Suns” colorway and fresh “All-White” releases get props, but the “Fighter Jets” still ranks as flyer than the rest of them.

13. A$AP Rocky x Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals “Black Flag”

An obvious pairing yielded an awesome drop on the A$AP Rocky x Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals “Black Flag.” Inspired by Rocky’s debut album art, this winged released was ‘very rare,’ as they say. We can only hope a sequel launches in 2014.

12. Air Jordan XX8 Black/Electric Green

The last time this many people were talking about a new Jordan, Michael Jordan was still playing – for the Bulls. Yes, the Air Jordan XX8 set social media ablaze upon its unveiling, but silenced skeptics once it hit the hardwood. A Flight Plate foundation took performance to new heights, while a Schoeller mesh shroud had the same effect aesthetically. This risky, cutting edge design put Jordan Brand back at the forefront of performance basketball.

11. Nike Flyknit Racer “Multicolor”

Flyknit technology was everywhere in 2013. Frees, Chukkas, Trainers and Racers wore the new threads from Nike, with all iterations having crossover success in the casual realm. Of all the solid releases, the Nike Flyknit Racer “Multicolor” ranks as our favorite Flyknit of the year.

10. Air Jordan 5 “Fear”

Some would say a scary amount of Air Jordan 5s released in 2013. From re-retroed OG colorways to a long list of new takes, the AJ5 got plenty of burn this year. Nevertheless, the Air Jordan 5 “Fear” kept it cutting edge by placing an oily olive upper on the shark-toothed silo. The 3s and 4s from the respective pack get due props, but the AJ5 still serves as the standout from the “Fear” collection.

9. adidas Mutombo Black/White-Red

It took two decades to get an adidas Mutombo retro, but it proved to be well worth the wait. Among all the big man bring backs, the Mutombo has managed to be well received in just about every colorway, old and new. Even after all these years, the shoe packs a ton of personality and had the digital campaign to match. The OG colorway cracks our top ten.

8. Packer Shoes x Reebok Kamikaze II “Remember the Alamo”

If storytelling is the calling card for a good collaboration, then consider Packer Shoes to be the new Slick Rick. The “Remember the Alamo” Kamikaze II was a much of a movie as any sneaker shop can claim, retelling the tale of Shawn Kemp’s All-Star glory through footwear and Mitchell & Ness product. While we also saw great RBK collabos from Sneakersnstuff, Palace and other shops across the world, this Packer pack takes the cake.

7. Nike LeBron X “What the MVP”

Even after the success of the LeBron 8 and the LeBron 9, the LeBron X took it to another level by seemingly selling out every energy colorway. The Nike LeBron X “What the MVP” proved the sneaker success also had the accolades to match, combining a handful of makeups as a toast to King James’ hardware.

6. Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte III “ECP”

In 2013, Ronnie Fieg managed to drop a design for every type of fashionable New Yorker without even touching a basketball silo. Hot retro runners, ice cold Timbs and fringed Sebagos all took well to Mercer pants, heavyweight sweats and cuffed khakis without confusing any of the customers. While all that impressed, the Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte III “East Coast Project” saw the perfect pairing of his design and marketing moxy.

5. Air Jordan 5 “Doernbecher”

Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, the Air Jordan 5 “Doernbecher” tells the tale of the late Isaac Arzate in glowing fashion. A promising athlete who suffered from cardiac ailments, Isaac showed he had plenty of heart by displaying his love for sports, video games, family and poetry on this Doernbecher design.

4. CNCPTS x New Balance 998 “C-Note”

Straight cash homie. The Concepts x New Balance 998 “C-Note” definitely kept it classy on a money makeup. Inspired by the new $100 bill, this 998 looked more laid back than your grandpa’s walking shoes and more lux than his loafers.

3. Air Jordan 1 Black/Royal

Unseen since 2001, the Air Jordan 1 Black/Royal proved well worth the wait. Appealing to all walks of sneakerhead, this high-top take kept it simple and stylish at all times. In a banner year for the Air Jordan 1, the Black/Royal release still reigns supreme.

2. Nike LeBron X EXT “Cork”

In a year ruled by retros, the Nike LeBron X EXT “Cork” gave the public something they’d never seen before. Cork on a basketball shoe? It’s hard to believe and it’s almost harder to prove, as this LeBron X sold out in an instant and is rarely rocked because of its collector cache.

1. Air Jordan 3 Retro ’88

Despite all the new colorways, signature silos, and updated tech specs, the Air Jordan 3 Retro ’88 proved that sneakerheads still love originals and they still care about detail. Even though the White/Cement 3s released only two years prior, Jordan fans still jumped at the opportunity to buy the nostalgic ‘Nike Air’ edition as an ode to shoe that changed the game in 1988 and is taking it back in 2013.
