The Washington Huskies have a long history of producing NBA guards who not only have basketball game, but also have sneaker game. Top 20 recruit Nigel Williams-Goss could be the next in line to come out of UW into the league, but his shoe success is already justified. The freshman recently laced the Nike Kobe I from 2005, Kobe Bryant’s first signature shoe with Nike. Williams-Goss isn’t the only member of this year’s Husky roster wearing impressive footwear, but the latest crop of guards to work in Seattle has a lengthy legacy to live up to. NBA guards and Kicks On Court regulars Nate Robinson, Brandon Roy, Quincy Pondexter, Terrence Ross, and Tony Wroten are all UW alums who have shown out in both departments. Lacing up Air Jordans and rare retros since 2002, including the preferred Air Jordan 13 “Wheat” that matches the Huskies’ unis, Washington’s guards have stayed consistent.

Run through the following pages to get a full history lesson on the Washington guards’ best College Kicks On Court moments. Type a comment in the feedback section at the bottom of the page stating who you think is the program’s all-time footwork champion, and keep Snkrs Day bookmarked for all of your sneaker news and information.

Nate Robinson started his collegiate athletics career as a cornerback on the Washington Huskies football team. The spark plug would later make a permanent transition to the hardwood, where he lead the team to Pac-10 championships and a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Despite his current Kicks On Court Championship contention, Nate Rob kept his sneakers consistent while at UW, mostly wearing team shoes and his documented favorite, the Nike Air Max 2 CB 94.

Nate Robinson dunks in the Nike Shox BB4 TB
Nate Robinson with his Air Jordan collection

Brandon Roy is probably the most successful NBA player to come out of the University of Washington, as he is the only guard on this list to make an All-Star game. Once Roy was in the league, he became a poster boy for Nike Basketball‘s secondary shoes, but while at UW he had versatile footwork. The Huskies All-American can be given credit for starting the legacy of purple and gold guards to wear the Air Jordan 13 “Wheat”.

Brandon Roy passes in the Air Jordan 2 Black/Silver
Brandon Roy reacts in the Nike Huarache 64 TB

Quincy Pondexter‘s sneakers at Washington were a direct representation of his game and demeanor. Pondexter has always been the silent assassin, now finding his niche as the shooting specialist for the Memphis Grizzlies. His sneaker history is exactly the same, after lacing up clean Kobes and early NIKEiDs, this Husky has now found a spot representing adidas in Kicks On Court.

Quincy Pondexter shoots in the Nike Kobe V
Quincy Pondexter celebrates in a Nike Hyperdunk iD

Isaiah Thomas is small in physical stature, but large in sneaker stature. Before he was one of the leading endorsers of Reebok Basketball in Kicks on Court, Thomas had one of the best runs of sneakers while wearing purple and gold. Lacing everything from retro LeBrons and Pennys, to matching Air Jordans, this Husky guard always switched it up and could easily have the best footwear resume of any of the Washington guards.

Isaiah Thomas celebrates in the Air Jordan 3 Black/Gold
Isaiah Thomas finishes in the Nike Foamposite Lite Black/Black
Isaiah Thomas goes up in the Air Jordan 13 “Wheat”
Isaiah Thomas celebrates in the Nike Lebron 3 Black/Gold
Isaiah Thomas scores in the Air Jordan 4 “Pure Money”

Terrence Ross did a 180 during his sneaker time at the University of Washington. After subtly wearing the standard black team shoes during his first year in Seattle, Ross flipped a switch and started wearing rare Jordans and Nike Basketball models during his final season. Now part of the KOC mainstay Toronto Raptors and winning All-Star Slam Dunk Contests, this UW guard hasn’t stopped since.

Terrence Ross shoots in the Air Jordan 11 “Concord”
Terrence Ross controls in the Nike Air Max Sweep Thru Black/Purple
Terrence Ross in the Air Jordan 6 “Lakers”

Since reviving his young career with the Sixers, Tony Wroten has easily been the 2013 Kicks On Court Champion over the first quarter of the season. Lacing customs and vintage Nike models, Wroten has stolen the show this year, but he is far from new to the sneaker scene. While wearing purple and gold in his lone season for Washington, TW would have taken home College Kicks On Court champion; if there was one. Lacing up everything from the traditonal “Wheat” 13s to the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” before they saw retro in 2013, Wroten has a lengthy resume of sneakers showings.

Tony Wroten sets up in the Air Jordan 5 “Grape”
Tony Wroten contests a shot in the Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement
Tony Wroten is fouled in the Air Jordan 16 Black/Red
Tony Wroten drives in the Nike Air Max CB 34
Tony Wroten eyes the rim in the Air Jordan 13 “Wheat”

Legacies don’t rebuild, they reload. The 2013-14 University of Washington Huskies have a new slew of guards that have potential on the court, but are already established when it comes to sneakers. It is yet to be seen if any of this year’s team members will break out and make an NBA roster, but they all carry on the tradition in the sneaker department. Sharing the shine and all averaging double-figures, the current roster is consistent across the board with their footwork as well.

RELATED: College Kicks On Court

Andrew Andrews drives in the patent leather Air Jordan 1 Black/Metallic Gold
C.J.
