Collection Summary

“My love for shoes came at a young age. I loved having new basketball shoes to play in. I remember every basketball season I would ask my parents to get me some new shoes. I wouldn’t always get them, but when I did I felt like the happiest kid in the world. I was a HUGE Iverson and Kobe fan, so when it came to choosing shoes, it always was a shoe that was endorsed by them. Born in 1991, I didn’t get a chance to see Jordan play, so I didn’t get into Air Jordans until I reached high school. I loved to match. My dream was to have a pair of shoes to match every outfit, and that was when I jokingly told my mother “one day I will have more shoes than you.” I hadn’t known much about shoes but that if I thought they looked good, I wanted them. I remember my freshmen year of high school like it was yesterday. 2005-2006, everyone had Jordans. I had no knowledge about Js, but I really liked them. I bought a pair of replica “Metallic” 5’s and had no idea. I went to school and was made fun of and laughed at for wearing a fake pair of Jordans. I was so embarrassed, so that night I told myself that if I was going to get into shoes that I needed to become knowledgeable about shoes, and that was where my passion started. I would look up shoes then try to name every pair I saw walking around school until I was able to name shoes instantly. I started out collecting only Jordans, but once I realized how vast the sneaker world was I fell in love with everything that was “different”. Different colors, different shoe brands, different shoe styles. I’ve come to appreciate shoes of all forms and my love for shoes is the reason why I am going to school to become a shoe designer. My older cousin Nick told me: ‘If you love what you do, you’ll never hate going to work’. That quote will forever stick with me.”

Most Rare Pair:Nike Kobe VI “Grinch” (2010)

“My most rare pair would probably be my “Grinch” Kobe 6’s. When they first released they pretty much flew under the radar, but trying to locate a pair in good condition nowadays is almost impossible it seems. I’m lucky to own them.”

Collection Starter: Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red”/”Burgundy” (2006)

“While there are usually specific pairs that started it all for most, I had two pairs that essentially “started it all” for me. The 2006 “Fire Red” 5’s & “Burgundy” 5’s were the FIRST pair of kicks that I bought with my own money. I saved my allowance up for months, just to be able to get both pairs when they released. They released a week before my 15th birthday, so it was like an early birthday present to myself. I needed them so bad that I reminded my Mom for weeks that we had to wake up at 4am just to go to the mall. To thank my Mom, I bought her the “Powder Blue” Retro 5 Lows that released that day as well. Let’s just say December 16, 2006 was a landmark day for me. Experiencing a shoe release for the first time was amazing. I met a lot of cool people and the overall feeling it gave me was what prompted me to start collecting.”

Personal Favorite: Nike Air Max NM Custom

“These custom Air Max NMs are my personal favorite because of what they represent. They pay homage to my holy grail, the Undftd x Reebok Questions, as well as represents who I am. Not only does it pay homage to my number one sneaker, but it was also the first shoe that I designed. I teamed up with my good friend Johnny Bago (BagoCustoms) to create this personalized pair, and it was a great way to jump-start my future shoe design career.”

Most Frequent Wear:ASICS Gel Noosa Tri 7 (2012)

“My most frequent wear would be these Asics. The Gel-Noosa series is known to feature bright and wild colorways, and that’s right up my alley. The color scheme makes for an automatic head-turner…and they are EXTREMELY comfortable as well.”

Oldest Pair: Nike Dunk Low “3M” (2003)

“The oldest pair I have in my collection are these 2003 Nike Dunk Low “3M”. My brother gave me these before my foot was even big enough to fit them. Now that I can fit them, I love rocking them. The 3M on this shoe is still amazing, not to mention the quality.”

Post a picture of your collection as a whole on Instagram with the hashtag #communitycollections, or send it to info@snkrsday.com for a chance to be featured on Snkrs Day’ next edition of Community Collections.

Community Collections revisits the Lone Star State to feature the stash of a future sneaker designer.
