Rick Williams and Roland Coit‘s upcoming Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 release isn’t their first collaborative project. Burn Rubber‘s two founders have produced some of the best collaborations to date with both New Balance and Reebok, but which ones are their absolute favorites? From their original New Balance MT580 to their Reebok Question for Apollos Young, these Detroit players have nothing but great productions worthy of comparison and debate.

We caught up with Rick and Ro to get their personal picks between all of their collaborations, and to ask the popular Yeezy 1 or Yeezy 2 question. Click through the following pages to see what Burn Rubber’s founders prefer, and keep Snkrs Day bookmarked for everything sneakers.

Kick Pick: Burn Rubber x New Balance MT580

Rick: “The 580, because that’s the shoe that started it all for us. Without that shoe I don’t think there would be all these other shoes. I mean, there has to be a starting point, and that was it for us. So that will always be my favorite.“

Ro: “I’ll definitely say the original 580. The same thing he said, it’s the first one. We put our heart and soul and everything we could possibly think in our brains into that shoe. It’s kind of like when Nas does his first album, or you see a classic album, that’s how that shoe feels to me.”

Kick Pick: Split

Rick: “I’m going with the Classic Leather. And the reason I go with the Classic Leather is because I just like running shoes. That’s like my favorite; my favorite shoes are running shoes.”

Ro: “I’m going to go with the Iverson- the Apollos Young Question. I just think everything about that shoe from the ostrich, to the suede, to the 3M, to the inner lining, that silky or satin whatever it is, to the whole story behind it. Everything that went into that shoe. It’s probably our most elaborate shoe. That was like my favorite. That’s still one of my favorites period. Favorite Iversons period, not just the ones that we did.”

Kick Pick: Burn Rubber x New Balance “Workforce” Pack “Blue Collar”

Ro: “I’m going to go with the ‘Blue Collar.’ All day. There’s just something about those shoes with dark denim jeans, the same kind of stitching, and it just goes so well with it.”

Rick: “I’ll have to agree. For me, we actually designed the ‘Blue Collar’ at the same time that we designed the first Burn Rubber New Balance. So that was the one that was originally going to be the shoe, then Ro called me one day and was like, ‘we should do a two shoe pack with the ‘White Collar’ and the ‘Blue Collar.’ So I would say the Blue Collar; and I have an affinity for gum soles.”

Kick Pick: Split

Rick: “I think I would say Yeezy 2. I just thought that the back was dope, and the whole panel was dope to me.”

Ro: “I would say Yeezy 1. I actually wore both of them, and the Yeezy 1 was an easier wear to me. I wore my 2s one time and sold them for the ticket. Got me a Rolex!”

Rick Williams and Roland Coit’s upcoming Burn Rubber x New Balance 577 release isn’t their first collaborative project.
