Just as popular and ever-present in the sneaker game as retros and new silhouettes, customs have carved their own niche in the grand scheme of kick culture. So much so, in fact, that 38 customs graced the news pages of Snkrs Day in just 31 days last month. Carefully selecting those that stood out from the rest, we give you the Custom Countdown for October 2013, highlighting the month’s top 10 custom sneakers. Check out our picks below, and let us know what your favorite customs were last month in the comments.

The month of October was far from a “Red” one given the fact it didn’t produce a coinciding Yeezy 2 release. In lieu of an all-red release from the Swoosh, Ammoskunk created an all-red rendition of his Jordan 4-Yeezy mashup. Where’s the petition for a general release? On the inspiration side of things, this sneaker was fairly simple. So, in this case, it was all about execution. Color blocking is nearly identical to the source of inspiration, and frankly, it’s more fitting on the newer model. We’ve seen just about everything on the rather blank canvas of the Foamposite upper, so it was refreshing to see Chef of GourmetKickz go Jackson Pollock on the sneaker. It’s nice to finally see python used on a sneaker this year, right? All jokes aside, we can’t deny when the material is used correctly and creatively. Kudos to JBF for keeping python classy. The inspiration behind this sneaker? Who cares, GourmetKickz brought galaxy print back. As hyped as the obsession with the intergalactic was, you could make an argument that it was warranted. This sneaker wouldn’t even make it to store shelves if it were released. You may have passed on the Air Jordan 3 “Fire Red,” but Dank Customs had bigger plans for the re-released retro. To the tune of Gucci print, Dank showed that the Jordan 3 could use more black leather-based colorways. There’s still love out there for Foamposites, but not so much for the new price point. No worries, old Foams will have to do for the time being. Inspired by the Great White? You had us at the gradient upper. Custom Dunk? We’re listening. Gator print? Now you’re talking. How JBF Customs was able to replace all of the panels with gator while simultaneously refraining from overdoing it, we’ll never know. Sure, you can make a custom for an athlete, but it’s a whole other ball game to see the kicks actually grace the hardwood. Jimmy Butler didn’t hesitate either, donning these customs on opening night of the 2013-14 NBA regular season. Peanut butter and jelly worked out well for the KD VI. If only Kevin Durant had a similar affinity for ice cream.

Just as popular and ever-present in the sneaker game as retros and new silhouettes, customs have carved their own niche…

[96
1225808,1225512

2":"type-post

10.
