The summer of 2013 is officially over, and it was one for the record books when it comes to sneakers. From general releases to limited collaborations, there was something for every sneaker lover to covet and cop. But what were the best released and unreleased sneakers May through September? We break down the top 25 in our look back at the Best Sneakers of Summer 2013. Check out the list below, and then give us your picks in the comment section.

The “Pre-Heat” Nike KD VI marked the arrival of Kevin Durant’s sixth signature shoe, and what a way to start it was.

Maison Martin Margiela hooked up with Converse to produce one of the best collabs of the summer. The Margiela x Converse shoe is actually hand painted, and with enough wear, the paint starts to chip away and expose the underlying colors of navy, black, red, and a Margiela-exclusive vintage yellow.

Initially designed for performance, the Nike Flyknit Racer has gained a ton of crossover lifestyle appeal. With the muticolor makeup, Nike released one of the best sneakers of the summer.

The “Hypercat” Bodega x New Balance 577 collab was easily one of the most anticipated New Balance drops of the summer, not to mention one of the best collaborations.

Shaq was popular this summer, particularly due to Reebok Classics’ retro of this classic sneaker.

Jordan Brand kicked off the 2013 Air Jordan 4 campaign with a colorway that caught the eyes of many this summer due to its bright red upper. The “Toro Bravo” colorway, made famous by the Air Jordan 5, proved to be just as popular as it became one of the most widely sold sneakers of the year so far.

One of the most inspired release campaigns of the year, Ronnie Fieg collaborated on another set of ASICS Gel Lyte IIIs for his East Coast Project. This collection, comprised of “New York” and “Miami” colorways of the ASICS Gel Lyte III, had more than just the East Coast going crazy.

This new colorway of the Nike Air Tech Challenge II sold out faster than a tennis serve, and for good reason. The lone Nike SB on the list, the Janoski “Digi Floral” grabbed the attention of many by incorporating floral print on an already classic silhouette.

The adidas x Mastermind collection consisted of an adidas Gazelle, Country, Pro Model, Library Hi and the ZX 500. The star of the pack was the Pro Model silhouette, that consists of an all-black upper with mastermind Japan skull branding. Not too many people paid attention to this pack, but those who did copped quickly with most pairs selling out in less than a hour.

An all-time favorite among Jordan fans, the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” was re-retroed this summer by Jordan Brand. This drop had people who missed the 2006 release eagerly trying to cop a pair.

The Lebron X is arguably one of the best looking shoes in the LeBron’s signature series. Released as an EXT Lifestyle edition, the LeBron X “Denim” was outfitted with premium materials not normally seen on a performance sneaker. With a denim upper, a pink midsole and a brown leather tongue with matching brown strings, this shoe was definitely a popular pick up.

The good people at Saint Alfred in Chicago teamed up with ASICS to drop their rendition of the Gel Lyte III. The colors were taken from Chicago’s lakefront and pay homage to one of their favorite places during a Chicago summer.

Dressed in silver, the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP followed up the translucent classic. The Hyperfuse construction made these lighter than the OG by reducing seams without sacrificing style. Dropping only in Shanghai, most of the world had to settle for detailed images rather than the shoe itself.

The first time Jordan Brand retroed a “Doernbecher” colorway was a huge success, with the shoe selling out online almost instantly.

Deriving inspiration from Detroit’s favorite rapper, and his latest album, the Big Sean x adidas Originals Pro Model II “All-Black” is worthy of the sneaker Hall of Fame. Dressed in snakeskin embossed Italian leather, this collab proved to sell just as well as Big Sean’s album, which debuted as the number 1 hip-hop album on the Billboard charts a week after release.

Rocked by a few celebrities, including Kanye and Channing Tatum, the WTAPS x Vans OG Sk8-Hi LX “Olive Drab” eases its way into the top ten with classic, premium style.

Hypnotizing in design and dominant in demeanor, the return of this iconic Reebok signature made a Shaq-sized splash this summer.

This summer, King James and the Miami Heat took home their second NBA title in a row. Of course, Nike Basketball had to release something special in honor of that historic feat. That something was the LeBron X “Championship” pack. Congrats to the few who were able to score this coveted set.

“Big men can’t sell shoes?” I guess no one told that to adidas as they reached into their vault to retro the adidas Mutombo. While 20 years have passed since their initial release, the Mutombo garnered much attention from sneakerheads old and new, causing them to fly off of shelves.

Thanks to retro heat like the Shaqnosis and Shaq Attaq, the resurgence of Reebok was in full swing this summer. In addition, Packer Shoes dropped a collab featuring the Reebok Kamikaze that had many desperately trying to cop. The accompanying apparel collection only added to the allure of this collaborative effort.

Designed and inspired by the late Isaac Arzate, this Air Jordan 5 “Doernbecher” was adorned with inspirational words from a poem Arzate wrote that is clearly seen under black light. The proceeds from this sneaker went to a great cause, and while not many people could get their hands on a pair due to the exclusivity of the “Doernbecher” collection, the powerful message and style of this sneaker can’t be denied.

Simply one of the best collaborations of the summer due to fantastic color blocking and inspiration. Though hard to find, those who were able to score a pair own what will surely be considered one of the best sneakers of 2013.

In commemoration of King James winning his 4th MVP trophy, Nike released the most intriguing colorway of the LeBron X. The Lebron X “What the MVP” is a mashup of the most popular colorways and patterns found on LeBron’s tenth signature. With the low supply and high demand for this sneaker, fans from all over are still wishing they had the chance to pick up a pair. Even though the sneaker released slightly before the official start of summer, it dominated talk, and turned heads, long through 2013’s hottest months.

Justin Timberlake collaborated with Jordan Brand to create the special Air Jordan “Legends of the Summer” Pack that took nearly everyone by surprise. This Air Jordan pack is composed of all-red color-ups, with accents of snakeskin and 3M consistently seen throughout. Consisting of two versions of the Air Jordan 1, an Air Jordan 2 and an Air Jordan 3, the exclusivity and aesthetic appeal of the “LOTS” Pack has the masses still hoping for a general release. We surely wouldn’t be opposed.

The summer of 2013 is officially over, and it was one for the record books when it comes to sneakers.…

[618
1225537

2":"type-post

25.
