The Nike Swoosh is one of the most recognized brand logos in the world. We’ve seen it incorporated on classic and timeless designs, but does the Swoosh make or break a model? Well, not necessarily. There are a number of time-honored silhouettes, such as the upcoming Nike Air Python retro, that feature little-to-no branding. Today, we take a look at 8 Unique Nike Basketball Silhouettes With Minimal Branding.

Released: 1987 You don’t need a Swoosh when you have snakeskin around the entire heel, upper quarter and tongue. The timeless Nike Air Python defined revolution without the presence of one of the most revolutionary logos ever created.

Released: 2003 The Ultraflight was a classic-but-futuristic silhouette that was extremely supportive thanks to the technical TPU cage that dominated the heel area. This section also served as the spot for a chameleon-like Swoosh that blended in with the color of the aforementioned TPU cage.

Released: 1997 While a large Swoosh sits on the lateral side of the Foamposite Pro, its predecessor features very minimal branding in the form of a miniature check near the toe area. Other areas, such as the tongue and heel, serve as platforms for Penny Hardaway nods, but the shell, inspired by a molded sunglass case, was not to be trumped in terms of the real focus on this silhouette. Released: 1992 The classic Nike Air Flight Huarache’s stripped structure left no space for enlarged branding on the side panels. The tongue gave way to the Huarache’s own, trademarked branding, but the actual Swoosh is non-existent. As Nike puts it, “A Swoosh? No need for one — it’s not like this shoe could have been made by any other brand.”

Released: 2000 The Nike Air Max Duncan model couldn’t have possibly served as a stage for impactful branding with the Kukini-esque rubber overlay suffocating the base. Yet, tiny Swooshes can be spotted on the tongue and medial side of the shoe.

Released: 2001 Much like the Foamposite One, the P-Phaze’s use of a unique, molded material left little room for grand branding on the lateral side, a spot where most Nike silhouettes reveal their origin. Minuscule Swooshes are, however, present on the heel and toe.

Released: 2000 Without checking the box tag, you wouldn’t be able to tell that this is a Nike silhouette. The Air Max unit might give it away, but the Air Pippen IV’s use of a near-seamless material, sans the Swoosh, made it the least recognizable model of Pippen’s line.

Released: 2001 All three Flightposite installments featured modest branding, but the III’s Swoosh was the most subtle of them all. Blended checks, which took on the color and material of the shoe’s base color, appear behind the side panel bug eye on the lateral side. There is also an encircled Swoosh placed on the top strap.

RELATED: The Evolution of the Swoosh on LeBron James’ Signature Sneakers

The Nike Swoosh is one of the most recognized brand logos in the world.
