Last week, we, the Snkrs Day staff, shared with you our holy grail sneakers and what we would do to obtain them in our latest installment of Kicks Chronicles. Everyone has one special shoe that is seemingly impossible to obtain, including you guys.

Following our staff submissions, we asked a number of sneaker fans, through various social media outlets, about their holy grails. Check out some of the detailed responses from sneakerheads all across the world below.

Twitter: @thegmoney041/Instagram: thegmoney041 The ultimate grail for me is the Nike Dunk High “Shima Shima III.” Growing up a UCLA fan in Los Angeles, the powder blue and yellow – mixed with the pinstripe interior – is such a simple yet beautiful colorway. I like it because it’s exactly what I would do with a shoe. The Nike Dunk, to me, is the greatest model ever released and combing that colorway with my favorite model just makes this shoe perfect to me. Every time I see a picture of them, I am reminded of all the memories of attending UCLA football and basketball games with my family and friends. Even more so, those kicks embody every weekend in the fall from when I was a baby until I became a man. Even more so, it reminds me of my father and all the love and passion he had towards his alma matter.

I’ll never forget the day; it was a Saturday back in 1995, and I was in Nashville with my parents for the day. There was this one sports store down there that had all these cool shoes I had never seen, and my dad would stop at the mall just so I could look at the shoes. When I was 15, nothing was cooler than getting a new pair of shoes. As I was looking around the store, I saw some Jordans I had never seen before. They were 10s, and they had green and yellow on them. On the sticker it said Seattle, and I immediately knew it was for the Sonics. I was a HUGE Sonics fan back then when Kemp and Payton ran the show, and these were like heaven to me. I ran out of the store to my dad and begged him to buy them for me because my birthday was coming up, and I told him this was all I wanted. My dad knew how much shoes meant to me and bought them for me. I wore them to school on that Monday and all my friends kept asking me, ‘What kind of Jordans are those?’ Knowing that nobody else had them was better than the hottest girl in school asking me out at that time.

Well, as we all know, the 11s were next in line for Jordans, and the 10s went to lawn mower duty-shoes. After lawn mower duty came the trash and I have never, to this day, seen another pair of Seattle 10s on anyone’s feet. When I go on eBay and see them for $600+, I cringe knowing that mine were stained up with grass and thrown in a landfill somewhere in Kentucky.

I’m never one to spend a lot on shoes, but if these ever came available at a reasonable price, I might have to sell a few things around the house to grab them. The Lord knows these won’t be used for mowing lawns again.

Twitter: @jamen_allen/Instagram: jamenallen

My holy grail is the Kobe VI “Orange County.” The overall appeal – with the insane color scheme – makes this shoe, in my eyes, pure perfection. With Kobe being my favorite player/idol, it was a no brainer for me to choose his line of sneakers while hooping competitively in my high school days. I sported multiple pairs of Kobe 1s and 4s – among others – until I graduated in 2010. A few months after graduation, I ruptured my Achilles, like the Mamba himself, although I was about half his age. The tendon was surgically repaired in January of 2011, which led to many months of laying in bed, playing 2k11, and buying shoes for my comeback. I still remember the day the images surfaced for this release and how excited I was; my girlfriend at the time even set her alarm to try and cop a pair. I was confident after copping my pair of 2011 White/Cement 3s online, even though the Kobes were a limited release. Unfortunately, you guys know what happens next: the shoes sold out instantly and my girl and I missed out. I’ve missed out on many shoes in my day, but this day will always stand out as the worst miss in my involvement with sneakers. To this day, the White/Cement is my last successful online purchase. I’ve searched for these shoes on eBay, frequently, over the past couple of years but have not been able to find a DS pair in a size 13 at a reasonable price. The day I have these in my possession will be the greatest day in my involvement with sneakers.

Twitter: @realgrifo/Instagram: realgrifo

My holy grail is a wearable pair of OG Black and Infrared Air Jordan 6s. Although that’s something I’m never going to find, I would literally do just about anything for them. If you told me they were being guarded by being Loch Ness and Nessie in a treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean, I’d easily make an attempt to get down there. I’d battle the Kraken for those shoes. I’d challenge the mighty Zeus himself. Just give me those shoes in a size 8.5.

Twitter: @ONE3TX/Instagram: one3ofdistinctivesoles

My holy grail is a shoe I had as a child, in both colorways, and I’d travel anywhere at the drop of a hat to get it. The Nike Air Python released in the mid 80s and had two colorways that my neighbor and I were able to get. I’d do anything to have one of them or both colorways back. This shoe’s meaning to me is deep because my mom hated Jordans, but she liked these and they looked like the Jordan 2s with the snakeskin. That shoe means to me what a championship ring means to some players.

Twitter: @monclobio/Instagram: monclobio

My holy grail would be the LeBron 8 V2 Low “Miami Nights.” To obtain it, I would probably only spend $250 at the most. I visit many sneaker swaps looking for them, and I see a lot of people wearing them but not in my size. I would take a slightly used pair. The craziest thing I would do for them is probably pay $300.

Twitter: @NaviPersaud/Instagram: Navi03305

My holy grail is the “Tokyo 23” Air Jordan 5. Ever since those kicks dropped, they became the one sneaker that I would give my entire collection away for. If there was any way I could give up all my current kicks, including my Raging Bull 5s, Black/Red 11s and any other pair, I definitely would for those sneakers. The overall design on the sneaker is amazing, from the suede that is used to the T23 stitching on the side. It’s just an overall well put-together sneaker that I would love to have. The Toro Bravo 5s were always my grails, but after the Tokyo 23 Air Jordan 5 released, I fell in love all over again!

Twitter: @SammyCaloras/Instagram: jumpmansam I’d pull out the stops to get the “Encore” 4s. I’ve always wanted them since I got into shoes but knew it was unrealistic to obtain these because of price, availability, etc. I will definitely save up the money when I am older to buy. Or, if someone who had my size would be willing to compromise in some way, then I’d do that as well. My Miro 7s are rare, but I doubt someone would trade those for the Encore 4s. I’d pretty much do whatever to get a pair.

Twitter: @s_ariestia14 My sought-after holy grail would be the Reebok Answer VIII. It has so many sentimental values for me. AI was the player I tried to pattern my game after, and I remember trying to save lunch money for those. I wore those throughout my high school years on the basketball team, and I pretty much wore the the crap out of them. Until one day, they were nowhere to be found in my room. I later found out that the shoes had been put in the dumpster by my mom.

I need to find those shoes in perfect, wearable condition, so I can play in them again. Sadly, I don’t think they will be retroed.

Twitter: OVOdanielG/Instagram: ogdaniel My grail seems pretty cliché of a hypebeast, but it would have to be the Air Yeezy 2 Black/Solar Red. Since I’ve been admiring sneakers, I’ve never seen anything like it. The details and work Kanye and Nike put into the shoe are extraordinary to me, and it was an anticipated wait for me in trying to obtain them. I saved $300 to buy the shoe for $245 and then get next-day shipping so that I could get them as soon as possible. The day of the release, I signed up for Nike’s text notification. I was alert the entire day, but when the time came, the website crashed and I was unable to get the shoe. I’ve never been the one to mourn over a missed release but after seeing the “Out Of Stock” message on Nike, my heart had an empty void. After seeing the resell prices of $1800-$2500, I thought I wouldn’t be able to get them and I was right. I tried saving up that money, but I knew I couldn’t waste that kind of money on one pair of shoes. I just hope one day I can fulfill my sneakerhead dream of obtaining my prized possession, the Air Yeezy 2.

Twitter: @Laced_Heat/Instagram: laced_heat

My Holy Grail would have to be the Stones Throw Records 10th Anniversary Nike SB Quasimoto Dunks. When sample images first surfaced, I was floored. I was heavy into Stones Throw music – Madlib MF DOOM – and Stones Throw Records were dropping classic albums. So when I found out there was a Quasimoto Dunk coming, they were going to be a definite cop for me. The colors and materials used on these were so unique. Looking back, they kind of look like a precursor to the Coraline dunks that released a little while later, but I digress. A couple weeks went by, and some additional info came out saying they were a “Friends and Family” release only. This completely ruined my week.

In September of 2012, I found a DS pair on eBay in my size 11.5. I guess someone must’ve been strapped for cash. I had just got a bonus at work, so I figured I’d bid higher than I usually would to get these. Well, I tried my best by bidding $850, which was the most I was EVER going to pay for shoes, but at the end, someone outbid me and I lost the auction by $10. To this day, I have never seen another pair, but the hunt is still on.

Connor Garrity

Seeing that the shoe was only released in Japan and some places in Europe, I would literally fly to Japan, and look into every sneaker shop there to see if they still had them. However, because I cannot do that, I am constantly searching for an elusive size 10.5 on every site in hopes of one day finding them.

Kaleb Carter
