The primary Nike LeBron line habitually receives unlimited attention, and rightfully so. It’s arguably the best and most beloved signature line on the market right now because Nike consistently releases innovative designs to many people’s liking. However, while the primary series garners most of the attention, LeBron’s secondary lines, such as the Soldiers and Ambassadors, are improving and doing so rapidly. The line has also created multiple memorable silhouettes over the years. Check out a Categorical Breakdown of LeBron’s Secondary Sneaker Lines so far.

Best Theme on a Design – Nike Zoom LeBron 20-5-5

Released: Summer 2005

The Ken Link-designed Nike Zoom LeBron 20-5-5 was created to commemorate LeBron James’ spectacular rookie season in which he averaged more than 20 points, five assists and five rebounds, hence the name, LeBron 20-5-5. He joined Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game in their rookie year. (Tyreke Evans is also in that class now.)

Most Technologically Advanced Design – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier VII

Released: Summer 2013

The latest in the Soldier line is the most performance-ready of all of LeBron’s secondary sneakers because of its vast improvements on the superb Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier VI. The Hyperfuse technology on the upper is lighter and more breathable, the composite strap serves more of a purpose in regards to lockdown and Nike incorporated Pro Combat-inspired molding in the collar for extreme comfort and a snugger fit.

Newest Silhouette – Nike Air Max LeBron Ambassador VI & Zoom Lebron ST II

Released: Summer 2013

Last week, King James helped launch the Nike LeBron X “Championship” Pack overseas while on his annual Nike China Tour, but that wasn’t the only sneaker news that arose from his latest Asia experience. James debuted the two newest installments in his secondary series, the Nike LeBron Ambassador VI and Nike LeBron ST Low II, on Instagram. The VI seems to be the most complex Ambassador yet, and the second LeBron ST is undoubtedly a few steps up from the original version.

Simplest Design – Nike Zoom LeBron Low ST

Released: 2007

The LeBron signature has come a very long way since the Zoom Generations released. 2007’s LeBron Low ST, a casual takedown of the LeBron line, was by far the simplest design of them all. The low-cut silhouette featured a full-grain leather upper, a Phylon midsole with heel and forefoot Zoom Air units and a herringbone pattern on the outsole. That said, performance-wise, the LeBron Low ST was solid, but it doesn’t compare, aesthetically, to the latest LeBrons from the Nike Basketball camp.

Oddball Silhouette – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier II

Released: 2008 Summer

One element that has remained constant with all LeBron Soldier silhouettes is the focus on lockdown through a strap design. The original Soldier and the Soldier IV both featured midfoot straps, while the Soldier III owned a two-strap element on the midfoot. The Soldier V-VII also make use of strap designs leaving the Soldier II as the only strapless Soldier.

Best Blacktop Shoe Design – The Entire Ambassador Line

Released: 2008-2013

You can’t choose just one silhouette from the secondary LeBron lines in this category. While the 20-5-5 is an exceptional outdoor-ready shoe, the entire LeBron Ambassador line is actually made for the sole purpose of blacktop basketball. XDR soles, breathable bases and flexible uppers make up the durable Ambassador silhouettes.

Most Success in a shoe – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier

Released: 2007

Before the PS Elite versions of LeBron’s signature shoes, King James used the playoff platform to bring light to his secondary line. He had the most success in the original Soldier silhouette seeing that he led the Cavs to the 2007 NBA Finals. He and the Cavs would eventually get swept by the Spurs, but his Soldier player exclusives definitely garnered more attention than any other shoe on the court during the Finals.

Lightest Silhouette – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier VII

Released: 2013 Summer

The most technologically advanced and performance-ready design is also the lightest. Weighing in at 12.9 ounces, the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier VII ranks #1 in the most lightweight shoes of LeBron’s secondary line. The release of this shoe replaced the LeBron Soldier VI, which weighed in at 13.25 ounces.

Heaviest Silhouette – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier II

Released: Summer 2008

The Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier II, which was also featured in the ‘Oddball’ category, is the heaviest in weight of the secondary line. At 17.4 ounces, it outweighs the Soldier IV, the nearest silhouette to it in weight, by almost an ounce and a half and outweighs the LeBron X by half an ounce.

Most Unique Design – Nike Air Max Soldier V

Released: Summer 2011

As mentioned earlier, LeBron’s Soldier line is, for the most part, recognizable by its use of the strap. However, the Air Max Soldier V’s strap, and overall design, was peculiar to say the least. The strap is connected to the midfoot and locks itself to the base on both the lateral and medial sides. It’s basically a 360-degree adjustable cross-strap that wraps around the foot from the eyestays all the way around the ankle.

Best “Think Pink” Design – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III and VI

Released: Summer 2009 & 2012

One of the consistent colorways that adorns the Soldier line is the “Think Pink” theme. All Soldier models, except the first two in the line, have took on the “Think Pink” theme in some form or fashion. The patent leather Soldier III is definitely one of the highlights of the “Think Pink” x Soldier series, and the combination of pink and silver on the Soldier VI definitely set it apart from the rest.

Most Worn On Court – Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III

Released: Summer 2009

During the 2008-2009 NBA season, the Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier III was one of the most worn shoes on all basketball levels. Of course, LeBrons then-teammates, including Delonte West, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anthony Parker wore the Soldier IIIs, but there were also a lot of LeBron’s opponents who laced up the Soldier III that year. In addition, a number of WNBA players wore the shoe, as well as various players in the college ranks.

Rarest Find On Court – Nike Air Max Ambassador V

Released: Fall 2012

King James finds time to wear a shoe from his Ambassador line at least once each season, even if it’s only for one half. He laced up the Ambassador V for one half during a game in December, but one of the most surprising spottings of a secondary LeBron shoe on court was Mike Miller’s consistent wear of the Ambassador V during the 2013 NBA Postseason. He even brought more attention to this overseas exclusive by hitting a timely three-pointer with only one Ambassador on during the Finals.

First On NIKEiD – LeBron Soldier IV

Released: Summer 2008

As LeBron’s primary signature line grows, so does his secondary series. The Soldier silhouettes are a regular on NIKEiD now, but at one point, they were not customizable. The IV was the first Soldier to be added to the NIKEiD lineup. However, the II was the first semi-customizable Soldier five years ago when Eastbay allowed you to put your own number on the Team Bank versions.
