We’ve all been there before. You know, the feeling you have when you pass up on a shoe – whether it be some years ago or just last week – that is supposed to be in your closet or on your feet at this very moment had you went with your first instinct to purchase. Now, that shoe is either going for five times as much as it was when you first saw it or is no longer in production. Your loss.

For our first installment of Kick Chronicles, the Snkrs Day staff relives and details those shoes we regret passing up on. Help us find these and share your own stories of passed on kicks!

Peter Sim

Nike Dunk Low Pro SB “Heineken”

I remember seeing the “Heineken” Dunk at Fast Forward at the mall on clearance for under $30. I picked up the shoe and thought about how out of place Nike was in the skateboarding market. The colors were loud and the silhouette was much slimmer than many skate shoes at the time. Now, the shoe is upwards to $500+ and one of the most coveted Dunk Low SBs of all time. I found out several years later a local collector had scooped up all the pairs. I regret not picking up a pair. And for a steal at that.

Michael Parsley

Sakura Ueno x Nike Court Force High Premium

I was only 17 when I first laid eyes on the Sakura Ueno x Nike Court Force High Premium, and they immediately grabbed my attention. Sitting on the shelve in size 8.5 (my size), this pair of shoes tempted me every time I walked in my local sneaker spot. Why’d I pass? The light pink color and gold stars were just a little too much for me at the time, but in retrospect, U.O.E.N.O. how much I regret not scooping these.

Brittany Shelton

Nike Shox Bomber “Doernbecher”

I remember looking at these on the shelf at the Nike Employee Store in Beaverton back in 2006. I was getting ready to start school at the University of Oregon, and I still managed to pass on these Ducks show stoppers. I still perform regular eBay searches in hopes of finding a pair in my size.

George Kiel

Nike Air Bakin’ “Cool Grey”

Back in 2008, I chose a pair of Charcoal, Red and Black Dunks that I rarely wear over these. To this day, it’s still one of the dumbest decisions I’ve made in regards to sneakers. Tim Hardaway was one of my favorite players – I had the T-Bug Flights – so why would I not pick up another Tim Hardaway-worn shoe? No worries. I’m going to find them in this color one day.

Kin Kwan

Vans Van Doren Authentic “Retro Flag”

I’m a fan of Vans and their casual lifestyle shoes. I wish I hadn’t passed up on these Van Doren Authentics with the retro American flag print. It would have been perfect to wear while watching explosions in the sky on July 4. GO ‘MURICA!

Cameron White

Nike Air More Uptempo Black/White

Love at first sight is the only way I could describe how I felt about the Nike Air More Uptempo. Being six years old at the time of the initial release of this sneaker, I dragged my father around the mall looking for them. Every store we visited gave us the same answer: ‘I’m sorry, but we don’t have your size.’ With this being one of the first times I ever had to deal with rejection, I didn’t take it very well. I left the mall in tears and empty handed because I could not settle for any other shoe. That was not the only time the Nike Air More Uptempo eluded me as they made their return in December of 2010. The $160 price tag was a bit steep, so it was either the shoes or gifts for my family. Although I took the unselfish route and chose the latter, I still regret not grabbing a pair of the More Uptempo.

TeeJay Void

Air Jordan 4 “Mist Blue”

I have absolutely no good reason why I skipped on these. The Jordan 4 is my favorite model behind the obvious 11s. I even had the “Sand” women joints, but figured I’d get these later. Needless to say, I still don’t have them and have been kicking myself for seven years.

Sid Ashford

Air Jordan XVII “Lightning”

Anyone who really knows me, knows the Air Jordan XVII will forever be one of my favorite silhouettes. I remember being 13 years old, begging my mom for both the “College Blue” pair as well as the “Carolina” pair. Although I’m grateful that I was fortunate to have owned both, I still glower at the thought of not pursuing the “Lightning” colorway. The 11-year wound was reopened when Wale was recently seen rocking a pair on 106 and Park. Damn.

Ian Stonebrook

adidas Crazy 8

The “All-Star” Crazy 8 retro. I distinctly remember watching the ‘98 ASG at a party in my friend Steve’s basement. Kobe was my favorite player at the time, though I wore an Iverson jersey to the festivities, and his first start/appearance in the All-Star Game was a huge deal. The matchup against MJ was a big story and the Lake Show, having four players in the game (Shaq, KB8, EJ and Van Exel), was wild. I’m pretty sure this colorway never released in OG fashion, so the fact that adidas brought it back years later was awesome. Should’ve copped.

Jordan Howenstine

Nike Zoom Kobe IV “Gold Medal”

The “Gold Medal” Kobe IVs definitely stood out on the clearance wall at a Nike Outlet in Ohio, and I convinced my mom to stop on a family road trip in 2009. I was in a pick-your-kick dilemma, between these and a simple grey pair of Air Max Classic BW Textiles. That was during the return of the max, and I went with the casual shoe. They’re not impossible to find on eBay, but they’re much more than the $59.99 price tag that I passed on.

Gabe Oshin

Air Jordan 1 Black/Royal

At the time that these dropped, I had sworn off Jays for the foreseeable future, but as more and more Jordan 1s began to pop up, my regret for passing these up grew. Each subsequent release hasn’t quite measured up, and the kicking of myself occurs every time. I have the “Shadow Grey” 1s on my radar, but the Royals are my grail for the moment.

Karlton Johnson

Nike SB Blazer Premium “Milkcrate”

The Nike Blazer is one of my favorite silhouettes. May 2007 was my final moments of high school, and we all know how hectic times get before graduation. I told my mom that I wanted these for a graduation gift and told her where she could find them and the release date. Long story short, graduation came around and I asked her if she got them yet – she had a disappointed look. She thought they came out on the 15th instead of the 5th.
