The Nike Hyperposite was One of the Most Underrated Shoes in Recent History

Rajon Rondo’s Nike Hyperposite “Atomic Green”
Sure, the Foamposites, LeBron Xs and Kobe 8s of the Kicks On Court world received the most attention throughout the season, but the Nike Hyperposite was easily one of the better shoes of the season. Aesthetically, it turned heads and headlined a number of Kicks On Court daily recaps. Performance-wise, it was preferred over the Foamposite, a shoe that seems to be everybody’s favorite, by the likes of Rajon Rondo, LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Hyperposite carried over into next season by multiple players.

Rajon Rondo Nike Hyperposite “Christmas” PE

iDs Are Becoming More Favorable Than PEs

Chris “Birdman” Anderson’s Nike LeBron X iD
The term “player exclusive” did not hold the same weight as it did in previous seasons. Players moved towards creating their own identities through NikeiD more so than any other season. Even some of the signature athletes, such as KD shelved his player exclusives for NikeiDs for long stretches of the season at times. The player exclusive will never entirely die out, but NikeiD, miadidas and YourReebok will continue to make a big splash.

Non-Basketball Shoes Have Become “Statement” Wears On Court

Blame Gilbert Arenas. Ever since his wear of Dolce & Gabbana sneakers in LA two seasons ago, everything has been accepted on the hardwood. Yeezys, Cam Newton trainers, Jeremy Scotts and Bo Jacksons were all seen on court this year. What could possibly be next? Well, we have a clue. Nick Young stated that he might bring something from Kanye West’s Louis Vuitton line to the court next season. Oh, gosh.

The adidas D Rose Line Was Still Extremely Relevant Even Though Derrick Rose Did Not Suit Up

No Derrick, no problem. We wondered how the Rose line would hold up with Derrick being out the entire season. Looking back, adidas made a seamless transition to life without Rose on court. A number of players, including Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard, Jeff Teague and Tony Allen all wore various Rose signatures throughout the season. adidas did a great job of producing a limitless amount of Rose 3, Rose 3.5 and Rose 773s colorways, so no matter what team a player was on, he had a colorway to coincide with the team’s uniforms.

The Nike KD V was the Most Worn Signature This Season

iDs, general releases and playoff versions of the Kevin Durant’s fifth signature model was on display in pretty much every arena this season. While the Kobe VII dominated the 2011-2012 NBA season, it was the KD V that was most consistent among NBA players this season. It also helped that the giving nature of KD generated boxes and boxes of shoes on the doorsteps of some of his friends in the league, such as Jeff Green, PJ Tucker and Jarrett Jack.

Players Took Themed Kicks On Court Into Their Own Hands

It’s now the norm to see special makeups on Christmas, MLK Day and St. Patrick’s Day, but this season we picked up on themes that were carried out by the players themselves instead of the brands. King James returning to Cleveland in the LeBron VI, Nate Robinson wearing Concords with the Bulls’ pinstripes and Nick Young welcoming Kobe Bryant to his hometown of Philly in the Kobe I were just a few of the self-inspired themes we picked up on throughout the season.

It Will Only Get More Competitive From Here

The competitiveness in regards to kicks on court increased a few notches this season. There were multiple players who were easily deserving of the crown this season, and we almost ended in a tie between Derrick Williams and Nick Young. Judging by the post-crowning tweets, there will be much more competition moving forward.
