Earlier this week, Nike unveiled a new makeup of the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour for Roger Federer to wear at Wimbledon. While Federer did exactly that, Wimbledon was not feeling the colorway, citing the orange accented outsole as an infringement on its strict all-white dress code. This is certainly not the first time an athlete has been forced to change shoes or fined for wearing them, with league officials in the NBA, MLB and NFL often cracking down on kicks due to colorway.

Though this special edition Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour was introduced by Nike as a “bold style statement for London” that was “inspired by the rebellious spirit” of fearless athletes, any sneakerhead has to see these kicks as pretty tame compared to the colorways seen in other segments on a regular basis. Nevertheless, Wimbledon is Wimbledon. Tradition is a major attribute of the tournament with dress code serving as the most visible aspect. While the orange accented outsole is the cause for violation, its also the aspect designed specifically for the tournament’s grass surface. With that said, Nike currently has a ‘Grass’ version of the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour available for customization on NIKEiD. The White/Orange colorway of the Federer kicks are currently sold out on Nike in men’s sizes, with women’s sizes still available here.

Source: Daily Mail
