You don’t have to live deep in the heart of Texas to appreciate a pair of low-top hoop shoes during the summer. While the warmer weather allows for rotation diversification, such as runners, aqua socks, and (gasp) sandals, some of us just love our basketball kicks. Unfortunately, for comfort, that added height doesn’t always take well to added heat. In celebration of this weekend’s Air Jordan 11 Low release and the sunny season, we call for eight more low top basketball sneakers we’d like to see back.

Before Bibby, Kobe, and Nash were calling for a haircut on their favorite basketball kicks, Dennis Rodman was doing so. While The Worm never laced, or rather zipped, up the signature of his nickname sake, this oddity from the already obscure Ndestrukt line would be a welcome retro.

By most accounts, the Nike LeBron 8 V2 Low is the best low-top from the LeBron line. Its comfort was on another level and it was successful commercially. Too recent for a retro, the next best in line is the Nike Zoom LeBron II. Taking full advantage of laser technology but keeping it quiet with colorways, these feel like a modern day Air Jordan 11 IE Low.

Amended in retro form, the Air Jordan 8 was adapted for low top wear in 2003. Two colorways took from classic color schemes, one original and one new. Seeing as the AJ8 is one of the bulkiest and hottest Jordan mids, we’d be glad to see these return as lows.

True, we’ve got the Reebok Question back as a low in the form of the white pack and other releases scattered over the last decade. The first five years of the sneaker saw some incredible coloways and impressive team takes. With most makeups relying on simplicity, the oatmeal, orange, and yellow-assisted editions would prove fly in any summer.

The Kobe V ranks among the best performance basketball shoes, but the cushier build of its predecessor plays better for off-court wear. The Nike Zoom Kobe IV broke new ground as a stand alone low-top signature, rewriting the rules of what a basketball shoe looked like. First seen in 2008 and releasing a year later, we’d like to see these back in rotation as a lifestyle shoe.

The AND1 Tai Chi may seem like a subtle sneaker now, but it was considered pretty flashy when it first launched. With the mids popping up on Lance Stephenson during the Finals, this summer would be a great time to relaunch the silo in standard and low top form.

The Air Jordan 13 is among the few low top models released during the Chicago days. While we’ve seen the AJ13 Low in OG and retro form, we’ve never actually seen a retro of the OG low colorways. These would be prime for any summer, wearing well with shorts and jeans.

Heritage hoops has made a comeback with the recent popularity of the Air Flight 89 and the upcoming Air Revolution retro. Though the Alpha Force 2 has had its run as a retro in the mid 2000s, we’d love to see the OG low relaunch. No need for flashy updates, just stick with the timeless team color blocking.
