We’ve yet to see a player rival the unbelievable Kicks On Court season Gilbert Arenas had during the 2010-2011 NBA season. It was not out of the ordinary to see him wear Iversons, Jordans, Pennys and Grant Hills in the same week. Even a Dolce & Gabanna sneaker was not off limits for Agent Zero that year.

Fast forward to the 2012-2013 NBA season, Derrick Williams, another former Arizona Wildcat, has similarly displayed the depth of his sneaker closet, his affinity for an assortment of different sneakers, and his desire to stand out from the rest of the pack on court.

“Unlike everybody else, I didn’t wear one shoe release from 2013,” said Williams. “I really tried to be different by wearing stuff that I know nobody else would wear. I didn’t want to wear the latest releases.”

Not once did we see Williams debuting highly-anticipated releases on court, such as the all-white Foams, the ’88 retro 3s or the “Area 72” Barkley Posites. Instead, the Timberwolves forward wore three shoes from the 90s: the “Oxidized Green” 14s, the “Redwood” 14s and the original Nike Flight One Black/White from 1995 (find out more about the latter shoe mentioned from the man himself later on in today’s episode of Kicks On Court Weekly Recap).

Williams also did more with the Timberwolves’ color scheme of slate blue, black, silver and green than we expected, and claimed that he would’ve done much more with a traditional, more common color scheme. “Teams like Chicago get no respect from me,” Williams said jokingly. “If I had red and black in my uniform, it would’ve definitely been over because there’s so much you can do with that color scheme.”

Sneakers such as the “French Blue” 12s, the “MPLS” Kobe I and the “College Blue” XVIIs coincided perfectly with the Timberwolves uniforms. Williams even wore the “Red Carpet” LeBron VIIs sans the red laces, a move he said he made to dodge a potential fine.

Check out how Derrick Williams fared in our five departments of Kicks On Court Champion voting. Plus, view a couple of the kicks Williams stated that he contemplated wearing during the season.

Air Jordan 4 “Oregon”
Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Dr. Doom”
Derrick Williams’ Nike Zoom Kobe I “MPLS”
Ultimately, nothing Derrick Williams wore was expected considering that he didn’t rock a pair of sneakers that released in 2013. Everything was pretty much a surprise. The “Oregon” 4s stick out as one of his biggest surprises because only a few have them, and the ones that do have them probably would never ever wear them on court. Derrick is different, however.

Top Element of Surprise Wears:

Nike Hyperdunk 2012 “Black History Month” PE
Williams didn’t do much in the iD/PE category. He was too busy bringing out kicks from two decades ago. His “Black History Month” Hyperdunk player exclusive serves as his only major shoe exclusive to him this season.

iD/PE Wears:

Nike LeBron 9 “China”
As we stated earlier, Williams did not wear a single shoe that released this year; however, he still had some very intriguing sneaker debuts. The “Oregon” 4 is definitely his major debut, but he also became the first player to wear the “China” LeBron 9 on court, although it initially released in 2011.

While everybody was thinking about wearing the “Galaxy” Foams on court, Williams debuted the “Galaxy” Nike Zoom Rookie, a shoe that can also be classified as an Element of Surprise.

Top Sneaker Debut Wears:

Air Jordan 14 “Oxidized Green”
Air Jordan 14 “Redwood”
Derrick Williams’ Nike Air Max LeBron VII NFW “Red Carpet”
Derrick Williams scored the highest in the Closet Appeal category. He was the tender age of four when the original Nike Flight One released, a shoe he wore during the early parts of the season. He also rocked two original Air Jordan 14s in the form of the Oxidized Green and Redwood colorways. Those three shoes were easily the oldest kicks we witnessed on court this season.

Top Closet Appeal Wears:

Nike Kobe I “MPLS”
Nike Zoom LeBron VI “Blackout”
Air Jordan XVII “College Blue”
Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy”
Derrick Williams’ Air Jordan XX3 “UNC”
From Pennys to Jordans to LeBrons to Kobes, nothing was off limits for Williams this season. There was even variety in his Jordan choices, as he wore Jordans from the 90s, Jordans from the early 2000s, and Jordans from the late 2000s. As for Penny’s line, he laced up Foamposites, Penny IIs, Zoom Rookies and Pennys prior to the beginning of Penny’s line. LeBrons VI, VII, 9 and 10 were worn, plus a couple of Kobes, one KD and even an adidas Hoops shoe. Everything.

Variety by the Numbers:

There were multiple shoes Williams almost wore before changing his mind at the last second. He told us that he almost wore the Nike Total Air Foamposite Max “Metallic Silver” in one of his last games of the season before going with the “Oregon” 4s instead (not a bad change). He also had four sneakers to choose from in his last game of the season versus the Spurs: a LeBron X iD, two FILAs created exclusively for him and the “Black Diamond” LeBron X. He went with the latter.

[618,835
1206926,1225551

2":"type-post
