The popular Air Jordan 5 Pack has been called a bevy of names over the years. The official nickname, “Toro Bravo,” held dual meanings. With Michael Jordan earning his notoriety playing for the Chicago Bulls, the inspiration was obvious. The “Toro Bravo” was named for the “Running of the Bulls” event that took place in Spain. The black pair represented the actual Toro Bravo bull that is known for its energy, aggression, and strength, and is used for bull fighting. The shoe also speaks to Jordan’s display of similar characteristics on the court. The red pair in the pack was meant to symbolize Jordan’s passion, as well as the bandanas worn by the runners during the “Running of the Bulls.”

Bodega x Converse First String Pro Leather “Ride or Die”

The Bodega x Converse Pro Leather “Ride or Die may have flown under the radar, but the detailing and story behind the limited sneakers shouldn’t be ignored. The vastly different shoes make more sense when you understand that they are influenced by the “Mod” and “Rocker” subcultures of the 1950s and 1960s in the UK. The biker crews were on opposite ends of the spectrum. The “Mods” were known for high fashion, rhythmic music preference, and riding motor scooters. On the other hand, “Rockers” were more of what you may think of when you think of bikers. They were built on rock and roll music and rode early motorcycles (known as cafe racers). The two crews often clashed, as do the smooth leather and pony hair on the two sneakers in this pack.

Nike Zoom KD IV “Weatherman”

Many of Kevin Durant’s shoes come with a specific influence attached. The Nike Zoom KD IV “Weatherman” is no different, as Nike taps into KD’s childhood for one of the signature line’s most famous colorways. Before indulging in hoop dreams, KD had aspirations of becoming a meteorologist. Though it would have been awkward to see a 6’10” weatherman, it is interesting to know that Durant is still into meteorology. We can only hope that the Doppler details and green color scheme are seen on another Kevin Durant shoe in the future.
