Tomorrow, the highly anticipated Reebok Shaq Attaq retro will release. Endorsed by Shaquille O’Neal and rocked by the big man during his impactful rookie season, the shoe is set to return in the “Home” colorway championed in Orlando and worn in the ’93 NBA All-Star Game in Utah. What’s the history behind this sneaker and where can you get them come tomorrow? Get the details in this edition of Everything You Need to Know.

1992

The Reebok Shaq Attaq released in original form during the 1992-1993 NBA season. Sported by Shaq as a rookie, the sneaker released in both white and black based makeups. Pump technology was present, as was the Dunkman logo on the drop tag. Due to Shaq’s departure from Reebok in the late ’90s, the sneaker remained without retro release during the duration of his playing career.

The Reebok Shaq Attaq served as the first signature shoe for Shaquille O’Neal and also the first official signature shoe for a Reebok athlete. Shaq sported his own signature during his rookie season, an honor that would not be replicated by a Reebok athlete until Allen Iverson four years later. In his first season, O’Neal would wear the Shaq Attaqs en route to 1993 Rookie of the Year accolades, putting up 23 and 14 a night. A fan favorite, Shaq was also voted a starter for All-Star Game, the first rookie to attain such a role since Michael Jordan in 1985.

The retro release of the Shaq Attaq also marks Shaq’s return to Reebok. O’Neal left the brand in 1998 in pursuit of his own clothing line, and eventually footwear moves that would focus more on cost conscious products and target overseas markets. His return to Reebok was essential for the re-release of his signature line under the Classics label, as it allows the kicks to keep their namesake and sport the iconic Dunkman logo.

The Reebok Shaq Attaq retro will release in the original “Home” colorway on April 18th for $160. The Snkrs Day Shop in Austin, TX will carry this model, as will select Reebok accounts including Jimmy Jazz, Shiekh, Villa, City Gear, DTLR, Shoe Palace, 1973 by Mr. R, on Reebok.com, and at other select Reebok accounts.

Tomorrow, the highly anticipated Reebok Shaq Attaq retro will release.
