Rocking a rotation of grails may sound made for TV, but it?s a reality for Washington Heights star Taylor Howell. Picking up an impressive array of Jordans long before her MTV debut, Taylor is a young vet on the sneaker scene, camping out for kicks, stopping by summits, and searching through forum listings much like the rest of us. We caught up with Taylor to get the scoop on her current My 5.

Taylor Howell: “My boy found them for me for $30. That’s the one shoe I could never find when I was younger. The shoes are beautiful. There aren’t that many Jordans that are those colors. When you wear those, I feel like your whole outfit centers around them. I have Sea Glow but I’ve never used it. The yellowing on the ‘Laneys’ looks cool.”

Taylor Howell: “They’re so comfortable. I got them right before my sixteenth birthday and wore them for my birthday party. Those are my happy shoes. When I was in high school nothing moved me that much until the ‘Aqua’ 8s. I have two pairs. One are a size bigger, I used to wear them for softball. Those are messed up. The other ones are in perfect condition. When they came out I paid extra to get them early for my party and then I camped out for another pair because it was that intense.”

Taylor Howell: “I go to school three days a week and they’re probably the most comfortable sneaker I own. I have two sizes because when I was younger I couldn’t find them anywhere, so I bought a size 5 that I would squeeze my feet into and be in pain– but it was worth it. A few years later, I found my size for not that much. When I got them, I sat for like an hour and looked up the serial numbers to make sure that everything matched up. I got the best deal, I lucked out. For a long time they were my favorite shoes, so I didn’t want to do anything to mess them up, then I found out how easy they were to clean.”

Taylor Howell: “They’re samples and I know no one else has them. They’re like my grail. I did a spread for Sole Collector when I was younger and I had them in kid’s sizes. I grew out of them and I had to sell them. Recently I found a sample of the women’s size run.”

Taylor Howell: “Within two weeks they’ve become my new beaters. I was kind of disappointed with the quality of them, but they’re still beautiful shoes. I hope that I can find someone selling the original pair because the quality is so much better, but I can never find them in my size. I’m not that big of a fan of the 1s, I’m like a big Tinker Hatfield groupie [laughs].”

Air Jordan 5 “Laney”
